Re: CC from active track

I encourage you to use Fader messages for these, which are assignable to Smart Controls -- and thereby, control surfaces. 1. In VEP, hit F5 as the default for opening Automation Mapping. 2. Select the tab "Parameters," and then, any blank item on the list. Click the "L" for "...

Re: Truncated Key Commands in Drop-Down Menus

Thanks for taking the time to respond. After your confirmation, I sent a bug report to Apple.

Happily most KC's read out completely, even those with a string of modifiers whose sum of characters exceeds a simple "F2." As for the Function key read-outs, oh well... back to the post-it notes.

Truncated Key Commands in Drop-Down Menus

I'm currently in Logic 10.4.8, but this has been an issue for some time now. This happens when I assign a KC to a Function command. "Edit..." is Open Articulation Editor, which I assigned as Shift F1. Align Objects is assigned to F16. As you can see, drop-down menus truncate the KC assignm...

Re: Assigning Logic Control (MCU) V-Pot Button to Other Than Unity Gain

Thanks to you both. Yes, before my initial post, I spent some time trying a lot of combinations, poking about in the digital dark. Pushing the V-Select had one of two outcomes: a return to Unity Gain (no change from the default, no matter the settings) or a drop to zero. I could not connect behavior...

Assigning Logic Control (MCU) V-Pot Button to Other Than Unity Gain

Most of what I know about this Control Surface comes from trial-and-error, and this forum. This controller's first V-Pot Select Button in the mode "Channel Strip, Channel View" defaults to sending a message of Unity Gain 0.0 dB. Is it possible to set it to send a value of -7.0 dB? I have p...

Re: MIDI Defaulting to Channel "All"

Regarding the second question, by "tracks" I think you mean regions. Select the regions that have the soon-to-disappear Pan data. Command 9, or Window > Open MIDI Transform. On the top left, "New Parameter Set." On the top right, "Delete Selected Events." Top line, Stat...

Re: Score Editor. Creating conductor score AND parts

Amos, you have begun a long learning curve. I strongly encourage you to view tutorials and read, then read and watch more tutorials. You are dealing with ground-level realizations about how Logic approaches notated music. "... staff styles I have the Conductor score formatted to "Score&quo...

Re: Triggering MIDI FX Bypass from CC 64 in Environment

We are equally puzzled. I spent some more time on this, using your most recent Logic file. It occurred to me that Logic may treat MIDI FX differently than Software Instrument and Audio plug-ins. So I re-routed our button outputs to bypass those types of plug-ins. (I used EXS24 and Gain plug-ins resp...

Re: Triggering MIDI FX Bypass from CC 64 in Environment

I am grateful for your time and examples. And you do understand the issue. I noted in my post that this may be a filter issue, and you are thinking similarly -- filtering as in self-cancelling a redundant message. And yet, I have read in Logic manuals (and I think I've even observed) that Environmen...

Triggering MIDI FX Bypass from CC 64 in Environment

The following illustrates in the simplest form a curiosity I've found in Environment. I've created a Fader button and assigned it to FaderM 1 56. This bypasses / allows the first (and only) MIDI FX plug-in. In turn, I trigger that fader with CC 64. Both Instruments 1 and 2 are cabled to this humble ...

Re: Assigning One Control Knob to Increment / Decrement KC Topic is solved

V-Pot indeed. "You might have assignments that are set to react to all values of that knob... " A welcome step forward in my still-challenged knowledge of control surfaces. Yep, I was just learning the assignment. Setting the min/max values for each KC assignment solved it. Thank you Des.

Re: Assigning One Control Knob to Increment / Decrement KC Topic is solved

Thanks for responding. As a proof of concept, I'm trying to use the eighth pan pot on an eMagic Logic Control. It is a control surface, so none of this is reaching Environment. According to MIDI Monitor, turning the pot one notch to the right creates Controller 23, value 1, and one notch to the left...

Assigning One Control Knob to Increment / Decrement KC Topic is solved

Child's play for some. Not for me. There are two splendid key commands called "Increment / Decrement Last Clicked Parameter by 1." I'd like to assign this to one knob, in this case on my eMagic Logic Control. But I can only figure out how to assign one knob to increment (no matter which wa...

Re: Asking too much

In Preferences > General > Project Handling: Close File Warning.png But if you uncheck it, then Logic just opens up the next file without closing the current file. Perhaps the warning could include an option like "Save This File, Open a New File." But when it comes to saving / closing / op...

Re: repeat once in piano roll, without offset ?

Though I cannot answer specifically, what you’re describing is best achieved with the Brush Tool, particularly if you’re not a copy/paste fan and repeat commands aren’t working for you.

Here’s one of many tutorials online: https://whylogicprorules.com/paint-brush-tool/

Re: Moving Automation Data with Track Regions Topic is solved

Welcome to the oasis of Logic knowledge. Go to the key command window (default option K) and type in "set move track". All three possibilities will show up. There are no defaults, so you'll have to set the key commands to your liking. The other way: Preferences > Automation > "Move tr...

Woohoo. Rolling over from 127 back around to 0. Now I get it.

Re: Environment: Sustain Pedal to Suspend, then Recall Mod Wheel Value

Thanks. The second byte 1 means a straight-forward fader bang, and that second byte seems to be irrelevant unless it's 120 or above. I've read the list many times online, but one thing I've never found is an explanation of "rollover." Your patience permitting, what is the difference with o...

Re: Environment: Sustain Pedal to Suspend, then Recall Mod Wheel Value

Success.

Out of curiosity: Meta 99 forces the fader to send its value. What does the second value determine? In this case, no matter Meta 99's Data Byte 2 setting in the Transformer, everything seems to work.

The speed and precision of your responses are appreciated.

Environment: Sustain Pedal to Suspend, then Recall Mod Wheel Value

I am trying to develop a simple Environment: when the sustain pedal is engaged ( CC 64 127 ), the mod wheel goes nil ( CC 1 0 ). That's the simple part. Less simple for me (easy for many here) is that when the sustain pedal is released (CC 64 0), the Environment sends the sequencer a message that po...
