Re: Specs - Cores vs Clock Speed??

Yeah i agree. For audio, undervolting and limiting (not disabling) turbo boost can do wonders for stability, its really a shame you can't configure macs like that

Re: Specs - Cores vs Clock Speed??

Clock speed is a rough measure of "instructions per second" – how fast the cores can execute the software. It's becoming more confusing for buyers on pre-built systems though, due to the turbo boost numbers that do/don't get quoted depending on how the sale is pitched to the buyer. This p...

Re: Specs - Cores vs Clock Speed??

more cores in 99% scenarios for audio
Only live input tracks and very heavily loaded single tracks will benefit from high core speed, and even then only in case if other cores are not loaded (since single core speed also greatly depends on turbo)

Re: New 16-inch MBP and Speaker Pops

When scrolling, huh?
Yeah, i had to run a session once at non-retina resolution because every scroll crackled :D
try using SwitchResX and switch to non-retina resolution, it should stop the -while scrolling- crackles.

iirc 3rd party patches that were made for the original Camel Audio Alchemy still work in logic

Re: The new 16” is strong enough for music studio?

you can also use Freeze tho. they're not "so called" limitations, they are limitations, and while mixing its really really annoying to freeze/unfreeze all the time. A real killer is also "live input", which there so far is no way in logic to turn off, which makes every loaded ins...

Re: Arpeggiator problem.

all i can offer is a honky workaround:
http://www.audiocr.com
free midi capture AU plug.
capture arpeggiator output with it, then just use the printed version and edit the missing stuff.

Re: Run a serious studio from a MacBook Pro?

Nothing to sneeze at, but 16" will probably handle double as much

Re: Run a serious studio from a MacBook Pro?

i hear you ploki, but, based on my own research and observations (having owned both i5 & i7 macs), i stand by my point (not to be difficult!). you're technically right. chips are better (even if marginally), but Apple planned for the 10nm chips in these enclosures, and it just never happened, h...

Re: Run a serious studio from a MacBook Pro?

best processor can be an unnecessary expense in the new models. The i7s in the 13" barely outperform the i5s, and the i9s... are thermally limited anyway. i would go for, at least, the i7 over the i5, at the absolute least... just a quick google search (& you can find mac-specific info as ...

Re: MacBook Pro 16” a dud?

its not a workaround tho. The moment you raise the level of the recorded material, the noise floor is right where it would be if you just recorded with higher gain. I have to do this in untreated rooms in a music school, where you have the drummer practicing upstairs, students talking in the hallwa...

Re: MacBook Pro 16” a dud?

Of course it doesn't solve it, but I'm suggesting a workaround. its not a workaround tho. The moment you raise the level of the recorded material, the noise floor is right where it would be if you just recorded with higher gain. So you don't technically work around the issue at all. You just delay ...
