Sounds like maybe you've switched screensets?

Try this:

1. Press 1.

Do you see the movie track now? Yes? Great. No? Then proceed to #2:

2. Press G.

Do you see the movie track now? Yes? Great. No? Then proceed to #3:

3. Press Option-G, then select the Movie checkbox:

Double-check the MIDI Start note pitch? Is it something like C-1 for example, which means C MINUS one, that's 2 octaves below C1.

When starting a new project and trying to use a sampler instrument you had already saved before? That's what I'm not clear about.

If your recording peaks at -3 dBFS, then you're not clipping: the signal is not too hot and your recording is not creating any distortion. When recording in digital, distortion occurs only when you peak at 0 dbFS.

Why are you using four different multi-band compressors to highlight different frequency ranges? And what do you mean by "highlight"? /what you're describing is not a commonly used technique, so I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve exactly.

The good news is, there's no need for you to know or understand any of this for basic MIDI Controller use.

If you choose Logic Pro > Control Surfaces > Setup, do you see any kind of device icon in the pane? If you do, select the device and press delete on your keyboard to remove it.

What is the peak recording level of your dry vocal recording, all plug-ins bypassed?

No, there's no such feature. Most plug-ins don't have a quality setting. I believe Alchemy (and Sculpture sort of) are the only stock Logic plug-ins that have such a setting.
