Re: Time Machine vs. Carbon Copy Cloner

it gives you the option of restoring a boot drive to your SSD/HDD via the MacOS recovery options though . Whats do you mean by this sentence in bold? If you boot to MacOS recovery (https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203981), there is an automated process which will install MacOS fresh AND use your t...

Re: Chords into piano riff

Yes! The EZKeys is exactly what I am looking for. At least, from what I saw on a video. Thanks for the tip! It will be perfect for your needs - trouble is you may find yourself wanting more MIDI packs - because honestly. they're so good at their intended job. BUT, a big plus is that it's all MIDI d...

Re: Chords into piano riff

Maybe I'm crazy but I think that's the fun part about producing music. You get to sharpen your ears by listening to work produced by others while being analytical about what they did, then in turn you sharpen your skills by trying to emulate said work. As a performer/player i agree with you, but mo...

Re: Chords into piano riff

You can get arps that play back based on a MIDI pattern to give a 'natural' sound, one of the free ones does - can't remember if it's BlueArp or not? But they depend on the quality of the MIDI loops you put into them Also the EZ products do just this with their pattern engines and built in grooves/s...

Re: Specs - Cores vs Clock Speed??

Even at base frequency the new 6 core i7's are pretty powerful due to the core count. I've got the 9750h in a windows machine and can do plenty on it @ 2.6ghz for majority of time (Have a profile with turbo completely disabled for battery and heat benefits). For audio i think the biggest problem wit...

Re: Time Machine vs. Carbon Copy Cloner

2002 we was still on tape backup, and that was the most unreliable solution ever. You think you've got a week of backups, until you test a restore from one set and they fail, this is despite each one verifying each night. I used to hate it. Back then a disk clone was a blessing as you could easily t...

Re: Specs - Cores vs Clock Speed??

Clock speed is a rough measure of "instructions per second" – how fast the cores can execute the software. It's becoming more confusing for buyers on pre-built systems though, due to the turbo boost numbers that do/don't get quoted depending on how the sale is pitched to the buyer. This p...

Re: Specs - Cores vs Clock Speed??

What series processors are they, do you know? i.e. i7-7xxx, i7-8xxx or i7-9xxx ? I would say that if the i7 Quad is 7th generation (i.e. i7-7920HQ) then despite the lower clock speed the single core performance may be stronger on the i7 2.6ghz which is either 8th or 9th gen i expect? (i7-8850H or i7...

Re: Make bass guitar stand out

You can use plugins like Waves Rbass to extend the bass into higher frequencies. Really helps for smaller speakers (Even laptops) which can't physically recreate the lows. I think it's a great plugin personally, and it's been around for years. It may appear to be a simple EQ boost in theory, but it'...

Re: A Guitar AU / Library

Scarbee is pretty good, but i don't know if it does single string (notes), because this track you've linked to has a mix of single notes and funky/country style chords so you need to ensure that you have both elements covered. There's some audio demos here:- https://scarbee.com/collections/guitar Fo...

Re: The new 16” is strong enough for music studio?

You can pick them up for the $1k mark, but not fully loaded and maxed out config as the last time I checked Well therein is the problem, you need to get the top models for them to be worthy for at least a few years usage, or else the single core comparison suffers moreso. Hence the pricing differen...

Re: The new 16” is strong enough for music studio?

If i had $2k i think a 2012 system is just not viable as a new purchase. They're already out-dated and the price will drop like a lead weight as we've seen historically. Just not a smart investment at this point (in my opinion). You've got to be wanting at least 4-5 years use buying a new machine, s...

Re: macbook issues

Hopefully it's just a ribbon cable that attention (Re-inserting) - if you don't see any display on startup then an OS recovery won't help as the boot screen comes before the OS. Hold up the display to the light, it's possible that the screen is displaying but the backlight has failed - if you can ge...

Re: How do I 'Quote' a section/sections of a previous post in a thread?

If you use the full editor when replying you can select an area of text, press the quote (") button and it will encapsulate the text for you.

Whether that's any quicker is subjective of course and depends if you're using a tablet or computer of course.

Re: How do I 'Quote' a section/sections of a previous post in a thread?

I had to put the quotes in a Code view so you could see them, otherwise they would just appear as quotes and it wouldn't make sense. That's all it means.

Re: How do I 'Quote' a section/sections of a previous post in a thread?

You put the quoted text inside bracketed tags, like this:
This is a quote

And this is a quote from a person
Which results in this:- This is a quote And this is a quote from a person So you have to break it up manually to answer to each section and u...

Re: Are you seeing banner ads?

Why don't you have some donation jar/thingy setup? I mean, i'd rather not disable my ad blocker as ads annoy me greatly and really mess with this site on ipad. And what will you profit from 'me' seeing them in a year, $5? I dunno? I'd rather just donate the equivalent to you/thesite, and continue to...

Re: Need IEM recommendations

As above IEM's are just too fatiguing if you're doing hours at a time - plus the slightest movement affects the sound, so you have to make sure you get a very good fit. But at that point, it constantly feels like you're locked in a vacuumed room. I much prefere an open/semi-open back headphone vs cl...

Re: Any way to get Arturia Analog Lab presets to show up in Patch Library in Mainstage 3?

Save one in Mainstage with a unique name and then use MacOS Spotlight to find that file by name may be the quickest way to find out where the location is on your machine. You can then right click on it from the list and 'open enclosing folder'. As Atlas says though, it should all be from the same .a...

Re: Time Machine vs. Carbon Copy Cloner

I had a powercut that killed my main machine and the local backup which was taking place, literally lost everything overnight and sat in disbelief the next morning thinking it can't be possible! But it was. Paid to have drive recovered by a specialist, but that didn't recover everything I needed, th...
