Re: More Gear Recs for Laptop-based Setup

Two external monitors for a laptop? That thing is gonna get crazy hot. That's definitely not something I'm looking forward to, but I do like the idea of having a screen for Arrange (or whatever we call it now), one for plug-ins, and one for the picture I'm scoring, or Finale, or whatever else comes...

More Gear Recs for Laptop-based Setup

Hey again all, So as I mentioned in my last post, I'm in grad school now studying screen scoring and moving across the country, I'm working solely with my 16" MBP. (May have my family ship my '08 Mac Pro if I want a VEPro type setup, but right now I'm not sure that I'll need it.) Assessing my n...

Re: Negative Harmony

I watched the video and thought 'why do people have to give new names to established methodologies? Is it just click bait?' I'm not actively teaching anymore, but from the time that I was, I've always been interested in seeing the different ways that people connect with and internalize new (to them...

Re: Debating Control Surface Options for Film Scoring

You can use the Eucon/Avid control app for free, i'd try that out first on an ipad/android tab. You may find that a control surface doesn't add to your workflow, and it'll save you a lot of money and hours configuring. The app provides a very good indication. MCU is great when you consider it's age...

Re: Negative Harmony

As I was looking at the videos explaining negative harmony (a concept which I've never bought into as a jazz musician or a music theorist), I immediately thought, this just sounds like 12-tone axial inversion. And then the guy drew his inversion graph, and I realized, oh, that's exactly what this is...

Re: Debating Control Surface Options for Film Scoring

Does the faculty at the graduate school offer any suggestions? Have they told you yet what their official software suite is going to look like? It may well be that they're a "Pro Tools plus AVID" shop and will expect you to do likewise. Good questions! The program is all Logic and Pro Too...

Debating Control Surface Options for Film Scoring

Hey all, I see several questions about control surfaces in the forum lately, but I'm considering buying one for myself as I'm heading off to grad school to study screen scoring. Without being too wordy, here's what I'm considering.: For years, I really wanted the AVID (formerly Euphonix) series of A...

Re: fader controller

+1 for the Korg nanoKONTROL. I've used mine for years to control MainStage in live use, and only recently started using it in Logic as my scoring projects have had me jonesing for tactile controllers again. The nano__ series has multiple options if you want to expand from just one device in the futu...

Re: Why doesn't imported MusicXML sound as good as it should

It supports MusicXML. If it didn't, you wouldn't be able to do what you've done. The problem is, you're expecting more out of Logic, MusicXML, and your notation program of choice than is reasonable, at least based on current limitations of software.

Re: new logic version, 3june WWDC

Are we sure that's a flatter design? It looks like a good match to what we have now, and I'm stuck on 10.3 due to the age of my machines… (as I drool at the new Mac Pro and my old Mac Pro looks at me with shock like the girl in that one meme)

Issues with Safari and OS—Drive Issues?

Hey all! Long time no talk. I haven't been around much since going back to school (a couple years ago). Hope everyone is doing well. I'm writing because I have a weird issue with my tower that I'm not sure how to remedy. My Mac Pro (specs in my signature should still be current) has issues that are ...

Can't get MIDI out of Roland RD-700

Hey all, long time no talk. See. Post. Whatever. I'm trying to set up a MainStage concert for my girlfriend, who's playing for a high school musical, and we're trying to use the keyboard from the school where she works. A Roland RD-700. It's got MIDI only, so I've tried setting it up through my Scar...

Re: Project Unresponsive After Trying to Play or Bounce

I'm glad you caught that post, Eric. Took me a while before I began to consider Play could be at fault. At least I won't waste time worrying about reinstalls or possible project file corruption. Thanks.

Re: Project Unresponsive After Trying to Play or Bounce

Curiouser still: I tried to bounce an .aiff instead of exporting to movie. Logic does create the file, but it's just silence that lasts the duration of the project. It may just be my ignorance of the process Logic takes bouncing a project, but it's clearly doing something before it hangs. Another th...

Re: Project Unresponsive After Trying to Play or Bounce

Just as an update, I can get it to play again (at least for now) albeit with a varying amount of overloads, but it doesn't appear to be doing anything when I try to bounce the project. The progress window comes up, but nothing on the screen is moving, and the computer sounds pretty quiet/idle. Activ...

Project Unresponsive After Trying to Play or Bounce

Hey guys, I'm in a real bind here, and I can't figure out what's going on. I entered a film scoring competition, for which the scores were due at midnight. (They give some leeway for issues with uploads, but I'll probably be pushing it at this point, particularly since it's a problem on my end and n...
