Re: New Duet interface announced from Apogee

I wondered why the Duet 2 disappeared so quietly, too… I thought Apogee had abandoned this price point to compete with UA on the interface w/ DSP front. Happy to have been wrong. Also, I know it's only a 2x4, and I told myself my next interface (to replace my FireWire Duet) would have 4 pres, but I'...

Re: Trying to figure out electrical hum in signal

Great find, power supplies can be a noise source for sure! Yeah, that was the common finding in that Gearspace thread with the CalDigit docks! Makes me wonder if Anker is as informed about such things. Maybe I'll have to see if I can reach out to them to see if they know anything, or if they're abl...

Re: Trying to figure out electrical hum in signal

More info: went to Google and came across a very similar thread over at Gearspace , and it turns out that a lot of people are having similar issues but with the CalDigit TS3+. It seems that somehow when the dock is also functioning as the MBPs power supply, the same type of static crops up. I didn't...

Re: Trying to figure out electrical hum in signal

So I finally had a light bulb moment just now while checking out my new headphones. Still using the Big Knob as the interface at the moment, but the same crackling sound started popping up in there again. Since the Anker Thunderbolt dock wasn't mission critical at the moment, I quit Logic, ejected m...

Re: Importing Images into Logic Score

Either way, the image would have to be a video file for Logic to treat it as such for export, but at the same time, all Logic would be able to do is select in/out points. May as well just go over to FCP.

Re: EXS24 - Problem with triggering sustain pedal noise

Well, what you'd have to do is assign that sample to a MIDI note, then tell Logic to interpret the pedal as an additional note instead of CC 64. The latter wouldn't be possible within EXS24 as far as I know, though someone with a higher pay grade may come along and correct me. Is there some reason t...

Re: SMPTE lock for Beat Map Markers and Time Signatures

No problem. Yeah, it’s annoying in some senses, but I also expect that if Apple were ever to introduce the functionality, there would still be scores of people complaining because whichever process they’ve chosen to use to implement tempo or beat adjustments would not work the way people want it to....

Re: EXS24 - Problem with triggering sustain pedal noise

Haven't tried this before, but the pedal would have to send a MIDI note on/off command, not CC information, so under conventional usage I doubt it's possible. I know Modifier can change CC data into note information, but on a quick test, I couldn't figure out how that would be helpful… Maybe you cou...

I started thinking about this when the feature was first announced. Soo… we're all going to have to get used to mixing in surround then, essentially?

Worth noting that that's not advisable in any circumstance anyway, due to opposing disk formats.

Re: Trying to figure out electrical hum in signal

Oh yeah, it's completely out of the recording signal, only shows up in the monitoring on the back end. Just gets annoying hearing that while working (it's not the conventional hum, but more of an infrequent staticky sound—even tried to rule out wifi/bluetooth/cellular signals to no avail). I guess I...

Re: Sharing Projects between MacBook Pro and iMac

Native Access is a pain, but it's not that hard to use. There's literally a RELOCATE ALL button to point Native Access to the new location, and global path navigation in the preferences. Yes, the plugins themselves have to be installed on each computer—it's fairly common sense when you think about i...

Re: Trying to figure out electrical hum in signal

Is the hum there when you turn on the speakers? It's not. In fact, it disappears if I turn off those channels on the Big Knob. If I'm just playing the piano, it's pretty silent. Haven't tried switching the inputs yet (the Scarlett is running into the combo ports on the Big Knob), but I'm thinking i...

Trying to figure out electrical hum in signal

Hey all, So almost a year ago I moved across the country for grad school, studying screen scoring. I was subletting at my old place and just moved into a new apartment a month ago—cheaper rent, but also with a third bedroom that is serving as a dedicated office/studio space. Bought a new desk that's...

Re: How to record on a midi track while viewing other tracks midi

I really only ever use Capture Recording mode (aside from the times I'm recording actual audio, of course) and I simply turn Link off and use the Score pane in the Tracks window. I don't even bother with opening a new window, much less dedicating a screenset to that kind of layout. I've been using t...

This is probably better served in the Composition and Creativity sub-forum.

Are you talking about lyrics or melody? Two distinct, though related, things.

Re: docking station

It is possible to upgrade the 2.0 i5/16GB/512GB model to an i7, so it could go either way regarding your processor—could be a typo, could be they're spending a bit more on you. Start by considering how many devices you have to connect, and what type of interface they use. When I had to move cross-co...

Re: Exported track doesn't keep sends and effects

Late to the game, but a fellow screen composer here. I agree with fisherking wholeheartedly: I always mix the original project, with MIDI still running. Granted, I can do that right now because I've got a highly specced-out 16" MBP and an NVMe drive for my sample libraries, and nothing I've wri...

Re: Exporting Tempo Map and Markers Topic is solved

There is no conductor track per se in Logic, but any MIDI file includes tempo information, so that's not an issue. As I understand it, Logic does include markers, though not all other DAWs (or NLEs, while we're at it) read them for some reason. It's been asked a few times on the forum; you can searc...
