Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

It's the practical execution info I have been seeking, and that info seems non-existent anywhere. The theory seems to be all that is available around the web, not the execution. Both 14 bit CCs and NRPNs are easy to use if you have hardware that supports it . Like a Moog Phatty (CC), older Korg Ele...

Re: Can anyone suggest a 64 bit oscilloscope au plugin ?

Looks like s(m)exoscope was ported to 64-bit:

I’ve just noticed it. Haven’t tried it yet.

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

MIDI CCs are 7 bit by default. "14 bit CCs" are actually two CCs used together . The MIDI spec intended CCs from 0-31 to match up with CCs 32-63. Let's choose CC#2 (breath for our example. If the breath controller sends the upper (MSB) bits as CC #2 and the lower (LSB) bits as CC #34. The...

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

Slightly off topic but related... Just read an article about midi 2.0 that might be of interest. Also, I once a was interested in a Euphonix (now Avid) control surface that used a network protocol and had a 1000 (or something like that) steps (as opposed to 127). Different means, but achieve the sa...

Re: IAC MIDI Mess (Loopback in Logic) [Solved] Topic is solved

Thanks for confirming the difference between these methods. It sounded like the difference was per project or global. In my current usage situation, global works well for me. I was just wondering if there’s a situation where that would be problematic and therefore maybe I ought to also get used to e...

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

I just read your very detailed set of steps. I am unable to test this right now but I am entirely grateful for your effort to try to assist me with this! Thank you VERY much for your time. :-)

I will try to get to this before another nine months fly by!

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

Been a while. I will try to duplicate what I did with ES2 and Model 15 tomorrow. In the mean time could you try to ask some more specific questions, since you have looked at the documents. I do not know what does or does not make sense to you. No one is born knowing this stuff. drb Thanks. :-) I ab...

Re: IAC MIDI Mess (Loopback in Logic) [Solved] Topic is solved

Cool. We used to solve this by cabling the IAC port from the Physical Input object (MIDI Click and Ports layer of the MIDI Environment) into a dead end, for example a Monitor object, which would subtract it from the SUM input that is cabled into the Sequencer input: https://www.logicprohelp.com/for...

IAC MIDI Mess (Loopback in Logic) [Solved] Topic is solved

Public service announcement! Just in case anyone comes looking around here like I did... If you're using Logic and the IAC MIDI driver to send MIDI from Logic to another app (maybe to control a WINE-hosted Windows VST synth, in my case), you will probably encounter problems with MIDI loopback. It ma...

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

Wow, you are quite the charmer, I can see why we are all bending over backwards to figure out your problem for you. This is a friendly helpful board, or usually is. Yes, I've always found this board helpful. However, with THIS subject, I have found NO board helpful. Like I said, it seems impossible...

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

OK, Looking at the page for ES2 referenced above and the manual included with the Moog Model 15 app, I have set up both to use the big "FIXED CONTROL VOLTAGE" knob on the 904A Filter as a double precision 14 bit controller (not 14 bit pitch bend, not 14 bit NRPN, not 14 bit RPN) for the f...

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

Resurrecting this for a final point I found while looking through threads referenced in this one and further. In a KVR thread where the OP of this one is using the forum name Jace-Beos, the OP of this one mentions having problems especially with "filter sweeps at high resonance". A few po...

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

I would say that there are not many (if at all) hardware controllers out there (excluding decent mixer faders which are an entirely different price and performance class than your average 0,50 cent mini-knob in a keyboard which costs 99 Euros) which can deliver 14-bit messages, because it actually ...

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

I hope there is an answer for this, I struggle to understand NRPN, and I've been doing midi since it was invented. Still don't get them. The MIDI spec, for all the good it has done, is lousy. There, I’ve said it. With which part of the whole NRPN thing are you having difficulty? The math of MSB and...

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

Thank you for your responses. I have been starting to wonder if NRPN/RPN and 14-bit were even necessarily the same concept. Just because NRPN/RPNs can be 14-bit messages doesn’t mean they are ALWAYS 14-bit. Are NRPN/RPN messages ALWAYS 14-bit? If yes, then I see why so many people are conflating the...

Re: How do I use NRPN to Control Plugins?

Yes, I know what NRPN is. I don’t want another technical treatise. Come on folks, my first message was pretty explicit. I don’t want to manually type in values. I don’t want to convert to regular CC (that defeats the whole point of using what are supposed to be 14-bit messages). I don’t want to use ...
