Re: Channel Strip emulation

Well, I do like me some 'Scheps OmniChannel' or 'CLA MixHub' - talk about CPU...The T-Racks channel emulations are OK too.

My 'go to' these days are iZotope Neutron (everything) and Nectar (voices and 'lead' instruments)

Re: Internal vs external SSD for Logic Projects? Topic is solved

Time Machine will backup from external drives if you want it to. I assume that you use a separate drive for Time Machine backups. You need to go to the Time Machine preferences and check the exclusion settings - click the Options button. You will probably see your external drives in the list of excl...

Re: Channel Strip emulation

I think that the combination of the Vintage EQ models (Tube, Console, Graphic) and proper selection of Compressor settings (there are models that are quite close to "vintage" classics) you can achieve a nicely "colored" sound on a channel. No need to add more plug-ins for $...

Re: Small diaphragm condenser mics causing interference/noise

How old is your Clarett 2Pre? My Focusrite 18i6 worked fine until one day noise started happening...turns out that the power supply on the interface was failing, and eventually quit entirely. I wound up finding the noise problem occurred when completely disconnected from a computer as well. 3 year w...

Re: How long do you all leave Logic and Mac going.

NB I don't turn off or sleep my computers. Haven't done it since 1981. Don't plan to now. Well, I do close the lid on my laptop ;-)

Re: Where do I put my mouse etc on new computer!?

I simply plugged my pre-existing USB hub (powered USB3) in to a USB-A to USB-C adapter. Then I got a dock. USB hub plugs in to dock, dock plugs in to laptop. Works great

Re: How long do you all leave Logic and Mac going.

I don't turn off my iMac. I have been known to leave Logic up for days, but find that my USB devices get wonky sometimes - so I have to quit Logic and power cycle my X-Touch - I have started powering down the X-Touch since I am working on my laptop a fair bit, not in the studio. My quick-record temp...

If you want to get more details about storage subsystem performance you might want to try https://apps.apple.com/us/app/amorphous ... 4295?mt=12

This tool measures the all important IOPS as well as MB/s.

Re: Splitting the Mix Bus into different frequency ranges

If you are willing to be "all Waves" Insert the Waves "Studio Rack" (stereo). Use the frequency splitter to make 5 bands (sorry, only 5) Now take the first split and add a frequency splitter. There 6 frequency bands. You can add Waves plugins to each of the split frequency bands....

Re: Exported track doesn't keep sends and effects

Maybe a 'Bounce and Replace All Tracks' will get you closer. All tracks (especially summing stacks) get processed as well as all of the 'Send' tracks - make sure you create a track for each of your send effects. Once you have done this you can work with tracks, or stems (summed tracks) along with th...

Re: Control Surface - Logic Control? X-Touch One or Universal?

X-Touch Universal - the Mackie Control Universal clone. 8 channels/faders + main fader. All the buttons and knobs you could want. Simple answer for the iPad is I use it in "Smart Help" mode to feed me documentation/help while using Logic. Additional use these days, and will probably be pri...

Re: Does a SSD external drive need to be powered?

Amazon.co.uk has Crucial 1TB SSD listed for 82.83 GBP, a UGREEN snap-together enclosure (the ones I use) is listed for 14.99 GBP. Get the parts, spend the 5 minutes with Disk Utility (it's worth it) and save the 117 GBP - better yet - buy 2 !

Re: Control Surface - Logic Control? X-Touch One or Universal?

The X-Touch has Zoom control buttons on the bottom right, next to the jog wheel. The workflow speed-up using the full X-Touch is excellent. Anything that the 'Mackie Control' (see the Control Surfaces Manual) can do the X-Touch can do - a wonderful clone of the MCU...I use mx X-Touch and, these days...

Re: Does a SSD external drive need to be powered?

Bus-powered SSD drives are just fine. Plug them directly in to you Mac, or plug them in to a properly powered USB 3 hub.

The cheap USB3 enclosures get the power needed from the bus.

Re: EXT drive for library: What Quality Required? Topic is solved

OK - any SATA drive (6gbps) connected to a USB3 adapter (UASP) is fine. HD video is easy on drives. It all depends on just how much video you are going to do. Basically, if you video, spend more money... $60 SSD, $10 enclosure is the "cheap" image..."expensive" $100 SSD, $80 encl...

Re: EXT drive for library: What Quality Required? Topic is solved

Just a quick performance note - internal M1 SSD speed - MacBook Air 1TB - Black Magic Disk Speed Test - 1GB files Write - 3,647 MB/sec (that's 3.6 GBytes/sec - almost a DVD in 1 second) Read 1,815 External USB3 SSD - Write 300 MBytes/second, Read 287 MBytes/sec The external drive is fine for almost ...

Re: Using Logic Pro through external SSD/Hard Drive(HDD), what file system to use?

not really Time Machine - but - I use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my drives every night. The target/destination drive is typically a 4TB HDD which I have APFS formatted with a separate "volume" for each of the drives I want to clone. Works great. Of course it does take a moment or 6 to mou...

Re: Projects vs Folders???

A 'package' is a folder. It is treated like a file in the case of the Open command (double-click). If you remove the '.logicx' extension from the 'filename' the folder will lose it's fancy icon and behave like a normal folder. If you want to access the contents of a package in the Finder you control...
