NAS recommendations/advice

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone might give me a few tips regarding a NAS device. I would like a NAS in my home/studio, for full backups of my studio cpu, and also as a music server to hold all my music files. (For listening, and with control from iPhone and IPad. About a year ago I bought a WD myc...

Re: outboard warming/saturation/mojo gear tube and tape

Hey David, any one else checking this, I guess I didn't word my original post so well. "Warmth" is a pretty subjective term, I guess I was more interested to hear peoples experience with routing stuff to outboard gear, and any tricks and tips that make life easier. I've run into some organ...

Re: what are some songs/tracks/albums with really good production quality?

the peter white song or radiohead album? Ha, sorry I dint even know there was a song called In Rainbows. Yes, I referring to the Radiohead album. It’s about as perfect a production as I can imagine. I guess my definition of production is: relating to technology in the creation of musical work. Arra...

Re: Tv for Logic pro monitor

Just to go against the grain, not to be contrarian, but simply because it was my experience. I moved into a furnished apartment 4-5 years ago, it had a flatscreen on the living room wall, coincidently in the same place I was putting my desk. I did the same searches and asked the forums about “tv as ...

Re: outboard warming/saturation/mojo gear tube and tape

Thanks David. Yeah, I’m not precious about anything. I could get everything I wanted in the box, and I sort of did that for the last 15 years, but now I just feel my art is going that way now. That’s a great story about the heavy metal producer. Infact, the portastudio idea was intended for a simila...

outboard warming/saturation/mojo gear tube and tape

Hey everyone, looking for some people to share their joys with me. After years of being a very in-the-box composer and producer, I've recently, as of the past couple of years, been changing my philosophy/methodology and enjoying using more outboard gear. I'm trying to use less soft synths and more h...

Re: New M1 machines: what adapter for USB2?

thanks for the recommendations, I must admit, I wasn't aware of these higher quality hubs. Guess I've sort of gotten lazy on my peripheral searches. Cheers.
Going to order one soon.

Re: New M1 machines: what adapter for USB2?

There are a number of well-thought-of Thunderbolt 3 dock/hubs. They are not inexpensive, but provide all the connectivity that you might need. If you had any favourites, would love to hear them. I seem to have bad luck in choosing. Price isn’t an issue, let’s see the most gangster, pimped-out dock ...

Re: New M1 machines: what adapter for USB2?

Agree. But, pedantically: they're not just USB ports—they're also Thunderbolt ports, which allow for a lot more connectivity. The MacBook Pro is still the "central brain," as you call it, but Apple's move for ever-thinner/lighter/smaller portables, in addition to technological development...

Re: New M1 machines: what adapter for USB2?

Hey, I'm a tiny bit off topic, but still relevant I think. I'm looking at the new MBP 13", but just noticed, it only has TWO (!!WTF!!) USB ports. Im always supportive of the future tech, and usually never a complainer, but am I missing something? This is practically impossible to work at a 'Pro...

Re: Capturing audio in a Synth software editor

hey Wriggle, really appreciate you putting that up. Just helped me out. I see this was some months ago, but maybe I could ask for your 1 more piece of assistance. I'm a long time logic user, but new to outboard midi gear. So, I've got a Prophet Rev2, and I bought the codeknobs, Im sure it works the ...

Re: Loading sessions from NAS (SMB share)

It's slightly off topic, but I thought I could piggyback on this thread. Thinking of getting a basic NAS for my studio. I won't be running any logic sessions off it, as it will be basically for storage. But I do want to be able, when, say, clients come over to the studio to look at stuff Ive done fo...

Re: To Mac Pro or not to Mac Pro?

Hey all, just looking at this thread and happy what I see. My MBP touchbar had a motherboard meltdown 2 days ago, and I lost a bunch of work because of the satanic soldered memory. Feeling A little burned by Apple actually. But logic ties me to Apple. So I think I’m going to go with a Mac mini too. ...

Re: Outboard midi mixer/interface recommendations

Thanks for your input david. Yes, that setup works great. The problem is then I am not able to control the rev2 when logic/Mac are not fired up. I’m sorry I wasn’t clear in my initial post. my bad. What I’m trying to achieve; a midi-din from alesis to rev2. So that it is a stand-alone instrument, wh...

Re: Outboard midi mixer/interface recommendations

Thanks for the reply atlas. No, the alesis is an old, but wonderful, keyboard from the 90s. No USB. The rev2 has USB, but when the USB is connected, as well as the din midi, the rev2 outputs a terrible digital-like noise. A streaming data-esque sound. I should mention, as I didn’t mention in my firs...

Outboard midi mixer/interface recommendations

(Sorry if there is another post talking about this, the terms are so general, that when I search I get a huge range of unrelated topics) Hi all, I recently i got a some new outboard midi gear, and I’ve got to do some routing. I’m never really done so much in the realm of outboard midi, usually just ...

Re: Experience on using project alternatives when film scoring?

The one bad thing about Track Alternaitives is that they all share the same automation. Project Alternatives all use the same set of Audio Files. So if you delete or process one file, it will affect all projects. Thanks for this. This is precisely the kind of disaster that I would accomplish. I’ll ...
