Re: "muted" sounds on piano roll

I opened up a project today, and the sound was off for the piano roll. Nothing is muted, so I can hear everything during playback, but when I go to click on or create a note in the piano roll, nothing sounds. I'm sure there's some setting I accidentally pressed or something. Any clue? Is by chance ...

Re: Logic Pro Mojave Download

I want to use logic pro in Mojave. Is there any way? If Logic Pro is still displayed under your items in the App Store try to compress your current Logic application and then re-download it. I haven't tried this with a "downgrade" scenario yet but it somehow works with the upgrade scenari...

I recommend you use an environment mapped instrument. This will let you map input midi notes to output midi notes.

That's certainly sound advice. I'm probably more fixated on Scripter because of Mainstage (which has no environment).

Re: MIDI Mapping Help

There are probably lots of different ways to do it; one possible approach would be to use the Scripter MIDI plugin for this. This of course would (usually) mean that Logic still receives and records the regular data from your controller, but remaps it before it reaches the plugin. You'd probably hav...

Re: High-Definition MIDI?

Yes, Logic's MIDI sequencer supports it...just CC data being recorded and played back. I don't know if any of the Logic plugins support it, though. Yes, several plugins support it. We recently went over this with the ES2 here; it supports it definitely. Let me check a few others: RetroSynth: yes (a...

You could manually add an eight rest.
No idea how to achieve a default grouping though.

It's easily possible when the XTouch mini is in Mackie Control mode, though.

Re: "xx" meaning in MIDI track

Handshakes without terminating sysex strings with F7, sending raw bytes as handshakes, reverse nibble encoding for parameters, some weird non-linear envelope scalling parameters, and many more. Seriously, those Casio engineers were drinking *way* too much sake when designing that one! So it's worse...

Re: External Instrument not showing midi destinations correctly

There certainly is something weird in that setup. Audio/MIDI setup shows 10 ports for the Timepiece: 1-8 plus the Net and ADAT port. Looking at the library picture I see 7 Timepiece ports plus KMP, Oasys, Octapad and U220. This makes 11 ports. Perhaps this has something to do with the Octapad being ...

Re: "xx" meaning in MIDI track

CZ-101 (a device which has one of the most bizarre sysex implementations I've ever seen...) Ain't that the truth! If my memory doesn't fail me it had different dumps for sending and receiving data. Behringer, not to be outdone, managed to do something similar with the xTouch mini as well, but even ...

Re: "xx" meaning in MIDI track

And later as there were less and less hardware instruments around me I determined that I didn't truly need to learn it. I wish I knew more about it though! What did you use it for I'm curious now? Your are completely right about the "less and less hardware instruments" situation. Before p...

SysEx is right up my alley, so I couldn't let this slide.
(About 20 years ago I was basically eating, drinking and breathing SysEx...)

Re: "xx" meaning in MIDI track

System Exclusive messages are one type of MIDI event that manufacturers can use for their own purposes - typically, for editing parameters, sending dumps of voice data and so on. Note that in theory they're supposed to be standard, and not be exclusive to a specific manufacturer (that isn't the cas...

Re: Generating 2 midi notes per keyboard press Topic is solved

I think it would be interesting to find out where this is coming from.
Can you check with a MIDI monitor what is actually coming from the SL 88.

(One quick idea would be overlapping zones or something on the SL 88)

Re: External Instrument not showing midi destinations correctly

Could you also post a pic of the Audio/MIDI setup configuration? The first thing that irritates me is the mixture of port names. The environment shows a "Port 4" and "Octapad" but the "External Instrument" plugin shows "U220" and "Port 2" for those i...

Re: Assign tool selection key commands to "ESC" tool menu

One other thing please... The pointer tool is in the actual Tools Menu, but it does not show up as configurable in the Key Commands window under Tools Menu, see attached. This seems odd. While I understand that there might be certain use cases for this (eye tracker?) I don't think this is really mu...

Re: MIDI file opened in Logic is different (wrong) than other programs

No you are still missing it. I doubt you're qualified to judge that. I've shown above that different applications interpret identical data (from a Standard MIDI file) differently as far as prioritizing goes. This (probably and hopefully) has something to do with different philosophies and approache...

Re: MIDI file opened in Logic is different (wrong) than other programs

We are hitting here on one of the main problems (and differences) of MIDI and MIDI files. MIDI connections are by design serial. Computers and MIDI files are not. A computer and a MIDI file can have dozens of events on the same timestamp. Those have to be sent via MIDI in a serial fashion; and that'...

Re: MIDI file opened in Logic is different (wrong) than other programs

Let's go down that rabbit hole even a bit deeper. I completely agree with your analysis. So you can determine the exact order within a single timestamp by how they are actually stored. But still, Apple and other devs aren't really officially recognizing that ordering..its just a convenient fact of m...
