Re: M1 Mac CPU only 1/3 but wheel of death still appears frequently

Are you running Logic Pro 10.6 or Logic Pro X 10.5? Where are the project files? Internal SSD? External project disk? Which Waves plugins in particular? How do you have "processing" set? Automatic? Fixed number of cores? I have automatic processing, 10 channels, 2 Waves plugins per channel...

Rosetta is definitely the way to go at this time.

Re: Best MacBook for Logic

I upgraded my 2014 quad-i7 MacBook Pro (15", 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM) to a MacBook Air M1 16GB/1TB -different world. No noise, super fast, out-performs the old laptop even running in Rosetta mode due to plugins et al. If you need 2 external monitor support a MacBook Pro M1. If not, the MacBook Air ...

Re: Presonus FaderPort 16 Vs Controller Keyboard

The Mackie Control (MCU Pro) is still available at the eye-watering price of $1300. I highly recommend the lower cost alternative - the Behringer X-Touch (not compact!) which is a very faithful clone. $450 new. If you add the extender at $350 you wind up with 16 channels for $800. The FaderPort 16 i...

Re: is there a way to see what key commands i have AVAILABLE?

KeyCue only reads the "menus" that are available. There is a lot of fine control in KeyCue which will change its behavior. Any command that Logic says is "keyboard command only" will not show up in KeyCue.

Re: Presonus FaderPort 16 Vs Controller Keyboard

Motorized faders are it! I love my X-Touch - learn more about it every day.

Just got an ioStation 24c to be my "remote" interface - Faderport v2 (1 fader) + a 2 channel interface. Works well. Too bad it isn't bus-powered ;-)

Re: is there a way to see what key commands i have AVAILABLE?

I use a little application called "KeyCue" to get closer to a view of what's available... When I want to "hunt" for used/unused keys I often type "option-K" to get the Key Commands window, then press "Pressed", then press keys. I get a list of used keystrokes....

Re: Plugins load long and weirdly on Mac M1

My experience with Logic in M1 native mode loading non-native plugins takes a long time, and I get a process that consumes 8GB of memory and 243% of my CPU while it is simply doing nothing, If I put Logic in Rosetta mode and load the same plugins - no 8GB process - 15% CPU. I will put up with the sl...

Re: Logic on M1 Rosetta: Blank windows and missing GUI elements Topic is solved

I do not have these problems with my M1 MBA. I switched to running Logic in Rosetta exclusively which made everything reasonably smooth. Maybe share a project (audio removed) and I can see what it does here.

Re: Waves Plugins Workaround on M1

my M1 MBAir runs my Waves plugins just fine. I installed everything on the Mac "from scratch" and set Logic to "Rosetta" mode. Most plugins work OK, just slow to "startup" as the Intel code gets translated...

Re: Interchangeable Studio - iMac and M1 MacBook Air

Authorized to your "Internal Drive" is not authorized to a PCIe drive. In reality (according to Waves) your internal drive authorization is actually authorized by you network connection. I mean that you can authorize to a machine (identified by network hardware) or to a USB drive plugged i...

Re: Back up default key commands in case I mess up ?

Open the Key Commands edit window (option-K) Look at the gear menu at the top left. Note the "Initialize All Key Commands" (resets to factory) and the "Save" and "Save As..." commands. Basically do a "Save As..." after you modify things. You can recall your sa...

Re: Plugin / instrument name greyed out

It isn’t a VST it’s an AU component. Is it supported on Big Sur? Is it an M1 plugin or intel? Are you running Logic in Rosetta mode?

I get really weird things when running logic native using unsupported plugins. Far more reliable in Rosetta mode

Re: Changing the GUI of a Plug-In

I would start with making a Smart Controls interface for the plugin, mapping the parameters to knobs etc. Lots of different possibilities. You don't get a lot of control over legends for the knobs, but you can make a credible looking "box". If you need *lots* of buttons and knobs try "...

Re: Create automation points on Cycle Locators

Thanks! Simply dragging the automation curve is a nifty saving of steps.
I tried leaving my tools as Pointer/Marquee, selected the automation I wanted, did the Marquee selection and simply dragged down in the selection using the Pointer tool. Automation points showed up.

Super simple. Thanks David!

Re: Create automation points on Cycle Locators

Make sure the track and proper automation parameter are selected. Marquee select the cycle area. Click on the selected area to create a region. Issue the "Create 2 Track Automation Points At Region Borders" If you don't like having the extra regions simply select the track and join the reg...

Re: Bouce to selected track??

I wonder if Selection-based Processing will do what you need? Select a region. Selection-based processing. Click the Apply button. You wind up with a new audio file in the project browser, and the region is right there in place on your track. Don't enable any plug-ins so you get unprocessed audio. Y...
