Different delay times on each side can often give the sound a more sense of width and possible provide some complimentary rhythms, overall making it more interesting and engaging.

Though you can have too much of a good thing and it can clutter the mix up and make everything a messy smear.  It's better to be selective.  Sometimes having the same delay time on both sides will work better in context.
