NSL
Hello! I would like to send NRPN messages from Logic 10.4.4 to my Tasty Chips GR-1. This is necessary because the GR-1 has more than 128 parameters. I searched here and elsewhere but I couldn't find a clear explanation. I read somewhere that I need to set up a fader in the environment, create two SysEx events and configure them ... But how? I want to control a parameter, CC # 186. I asked at Tasty Chips and Pieter explained me that I need 1 for MSB and 53 for LSB. (1*128 + 58 = 186) but not to use SysEx and use CC instead. But how can I set up this double CC message? It doesn't seem possible in Logic, so maybe the only option left is really using SysEx... I attach here a screenshot of what I did. I don't know how and where exactly to enter the needed data. Is there any NRPN/SysEx expert here who can lend a hand? Many thanks! Cheers Ed
gacki
I would have to look this up but I THINK that NRPN work by sending three controllers in a row. The first two contain the parameter that is getting edited which then is followed by controller 6 (data entry) holding the value.
NSL
gacki, yes, I think you're right. Maybe working with SysEx the Midi Channel must be there too? I think I read it somewhere. I found the post I was referring to in my first post, it's by fader8. "For NRPN controls, create a fader object in the Environment. Set the output parameter for Sysex and an event list type window will open. Create 2 controller events here. Define the first for the NRPN number of the synth parameter you want the fader to edit, the second for controlling number. Make sure the second controlling message is highlighted before you close the window because that's what tells Logic which message will be changed when you move the fader. gacki
Don't work with SysEx unless you really know what you are doing. You need to know the manufacturer ID, the device number and device ID and whatever. I think I figured out your particular fader needs. But I'm on Logic Pro X 10.5.1 so I don't know if you would be able to open the song. Basically the editor for the fader needs to look like this: As you can see in the monitor it is sent as described: first MSB, then LSB, then value. Not sure if MSB and LSB need to be sent in this order. If there needs to be higher parameter resolution controller 38 would also need to be added for value.
