Any suggestions why? mp3 is a distribution format, you need to use a production format: a PCM file such as wav or aiff. What I recommend is to first save your Logic project with the option to copy audio files into the project selected, then drag and drop the mp3 to a track: it will be converted to an aiff file that you can edit.
