CoreMIDI fails to initialize after OS X 10.10.2 update

Tue Feb 10, 2015 8:44 am

Hi all, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this: since updating to OS X 10.10.2 a few days ago, every time I start LPX, I get an error message: "CoreMIDI failed to initialize - no MIDI channels available." If I go into MIDI Preferences and hit the Reset All Drivers button, it fixes the problem. But then next time i start LPX, same thing.

It's not a showstopper since it's an easy fix but it's definitely an issue that was introduced in 10.10.2, in my set up anyway. I've already reported it to Apple, but again, I'm just curious to see if anyone else has experienced it and if they found a fix on their own...

I had a similar, possibly related issue with this. If not it may be something similar, try Googling the exact error messages you get.

First, open Activity Monitor in Utilities, click on the memory tab. Scroll down to see if there are any items in red, namely "coreaudiod", identityservicesd" and "callsevicesd" all saying not responding. If so this is what I did after finding this via Google:
Go to Audio Midi Setup and look in the audio devices, there was a DigiCoreAudio device, usually there if you had installed pro tools on your system at some point. If so, find Digidesign CoreAudio.plugin in the following path: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL. Delete the plug in and move it to the trash.
This also solved another issue where the dock remaind when I Shut Down my Mac, which terminates the shut down process and I had to force shut down.
Hope this helps.

2015 ... same problem ...2008 solution worked for me....got it from http://jnote.org/29

Opening Terminal.app and entering this command should remedy the problem:

sudo rm -rf /Library/Audio/MIDI\ Drivers/*

Re-opened logic and bosh all worked fine.

I'm getting a core midi error while using Logic Pro 10.2.1

I have to do a restart to get midi working again.

I'm learning to use a new synth, PGG Phonem as this is occurring but I'm not sure if there is a connection.

I tried the Terminal command and got a "No Match".

The new Bounce Tracks In Place feature also has a problem. It fuses all your audio tracks solo and mute functions and an undo back to MIDI still leaves the MIDI tracks fused.

10.2.2 ??
