Midi Not Responding / Midi Responding Strangely

Really hoping someone can help me with this one.  I am at a loss.  The problem is that my midi controller is sometimes not recognized within Logic and when it is, notes are delayed and often they latch until I turn off the plugin they are controlling.  Restarting can sometimes fix it not being recognized but then it's still responding strangely.

Here is what I have:

• M-Audio Axiom 25 connected direct to laptop USB
  
• M-Audio Firewire 1814
  
• LPX 10.2.2
  
• OS X 10.9.5

Here is what I know:

• Controller functions properly when used on other laptops or when tested on Garageband.
  
• Midi functions correctly as tested through Midi Monitor
  
• Musical typing in LPX works fine

I've tried emptying the contents of the midi folder per these instructions:  http://m-audio.com/kb/article/1603.  No dice.

Any ideas are welcome.  Thanks!
