kerochan
Hello My Macbook Air Fan is suddenly going crazy, even before I start Logic, no applications open. Any pointers? its just over a year old.
Eriksimon
It most likely means that MDS and/or MDworker, (which are faceless and invisible OS X background applications, 'minions' of SpotLight, that almost always kick in after startup, or after changing things on your disk or somesuch) may be using all or most or much of your CPU cores, driving it up to temperatures that compel the fans to blow. Not something to worry about, unless it happens too often. To check if indeed it is your CPU working hard, you can check that ("live") in Activity Monitor. It could also be that you have your MB set up so that there is not sufficient airflow in and out (like on a pillow or matress or a rug). kerochan
Thanks Eriksimon I will not worry about it, unless it continues. Many thanks for the reassurance!

zplane
I would check your disk activity as well as the fan running could be from constant disk activity. This can be caused by applications frequently caching information to disk, e.g., when you have many tabs open in a web browser, and the browser is caching information for each tab to keep it up to date (especially if the web content changes). Not good for your disk (apart from temperature). Also worth checking if there are any OS or firmware updates for your machine, as there have been updates in the past to fix these kinds of things. kerochan
Thank you zplane, how do I check the disk activity, and what can I do if I find something?
