bearcud
Hey everyone I'm new to this form and new to Logic so please forgive me if I sound ignorant or like an idiot, but I have made music for awhile now but up until this week I have been using GarageBand with a USB mic which was pretty easy to set up and get running. I now am using Logic Pro X, a Shure SM7B microphone, with a FocusRite Scarlett Solo audio interface. It is the first time I have worked with all three of these pieces of equipment. Anyway, I am currently trying to record some vocals on a track but I am having a hell of a time trying to get the mic to record at a hearable level! When I record I can barely hear the recordings & the audio files are just flat lines for the most part. Is this something I need to fix with my mic, audio interface, Logic, or all of them? Please let me know of any suggestions or ideas you have, and please try to spell it out for me like I'm a kid because I am just learning how to use a dynamic mic and all the other equipment for the first time! Thanks!
Alan Shields
Are you providing your microphone with enough gain? There should be a gain control for the mic input, turn it up until you get a hot enough signal. If it overloads or goes into the red turn it down. The Shure SM7B is a dynamic mic so don't use phantom power with it. HTH, Alan.
David Nahmani
As Alan says, you need to adjust the gain of your mic preamp (where the mic is connected on the focusrite).
