fiji100
How do I access the multiple drum kit banks that general midi has? I am creating pure .midi files with Logic Pro so no cheating with audio files, soft-synths or other samples. When you set a MIDI track to channel 10, it automatically defaults to the default midi drum sound - for an example of this sound that you will be familiar with, check out this MIDI file: http://www.midiworld.com/download/654 But how do I change the drum kit to the other general midi drum kit sounds, such as the drum kit sound featured in this midi file: https://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/gamecube/PMTTYD-XNaut_Base.mid Thanks! David Nahmani
Do you mean the drum kits in GM Level 2? If that's what you mean then it's defined by setting both the bank select LSB and MSB to 0 and using program changes to access the different drum kits: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_MIDI_Level_2#Drum_sounds
fiji100
Yes I believe I do mean the GM II drum kits. How do I set the LSB and MSB to zero? I tried doing a program change on a channel 10 track but the drum sounds didn't change
Solution David Nahmani Posted January 17, 2018 Solution Share Posted January 17, 2018 Create MIDI CC#0 (MSB) and MIDI CC#32 (LSB) with values of 0. Then a program change.
Eric Cardenas
It’s actually CC0 with a value of 120 and CC32 with an value of 0.
fiji100
Awesome it works! Thank you! Note for myself and anyone reading this... The GM2 program changes to enter into Logic for the drum kits are: 0 - Standard kit 8 - Room kit 16 - Power kit 24 - Electronic kit 25 - Analog kit 32 - Jazz kit 40 - Brush kit 48 - Orchestral kit 56 - SFX kit
fiji100
Both David and Eric's settings allowed me to access the GM2 drum kits. Thanks to both.
