How to trigger different samples randomly in the same key in EXS24?

There's also a true Random feature, hidden away in the dropdown

Extended Parameter panel at the bottom of the main EXS window.

To use the Sample Select Random parameter, you’d do the following:

1. Assign two (or more) samples to the same key.

2. Set up sample Select by Velocity (full intensity) in the Mod Matrix

3. In the Instrument Editor Zones display, set different Velocity ranges

for each sample (i.e. 1-63, 64-127).

Normally this would select different samples at different Velocities,

but if you set the Sample Select Random parameter to max (±127),

you’ll get randomly alternating samples instead, each capable of

the full Velocity range (as played).

Yes, the EXS24 supports round robin sample triggering. set the section “How to set up a round robin in the EXS24” section of the EXS24 manual for the procedure and explanation.

Thanks! I figured it out from a video. Now I've learnt a new concept: round robin. Great!

That seems cool! Thanks! This is a great solution as I want to travel light on future gigs - thats is: without my analogues.

Hi again!

Long time since we wrote here. I think I figured this out a while ago but now I don’t anymore :D Maybe you can help me through the steps and see what’s wrong in what I’m doing? I get randomisation but several keys get pressed at once, in clusters, so it’s not working properly.

I have done Step 1 and 3, several samples per key and different velocity range for each sample:

Step 2 (I think?):

And this:

Even though I've done this, several samples are played at once, randomly. What's wrong? I'm playing on my MacBook Pro keys right now so no midi controller.

Hi Joachim -

Hmm.. It seems like you have everything set everything correctly. I just tried setting it up (Logic 10.4.6, Mojave 10.14.5) with 4 (snare) samples and it worked fine (both from a regular MIDI keyboard and from the "MIDI Typing" window). I did momentarily get something like what you described, but it was because some of the samples had dead air at the beginning -- once I set the individual sample start points (in the EXS Editor) to eliminate the dead air in the (2) offending samples, it worked perfectly. So maybe check that, make sure that the other related (Round Robin) feature is off, and look over the front-panel Matrix Modulation settings to see if something else could be affecting it..

Cheers,

Joe

Ok. I’ll check that!
