kronik
Hi What is the quickest way to speed up a song from 97 bpm to 121 bpm? I have 65 tracks in total so time stretch is gonna be slow plus the tracks I've tried don't sound ideal and for some reason logic won't let me undo the stretch after its performed it? bug? I assume smart tempo is the way forward but Im struggling with it so any help much appreciated

kronik
what do you mean by that David?
David Nahmani
That's the quickest way to speed up a song. Using Varispeed: http://help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/10.4/#/lgcp1cc678a7
kronik
Ahh thats great thanks David... do you know why logic won't undo a time stretch? and its also affected the audio file permanently?
David Nahmani
How did you stretch it? If you use Flex Time then it's non-destructive, but if you Option-dragged the lower right corner then it's destructive editing.
kronik
I used time and pitch
kronik
What is the best way to stretch my audio without loosing quality?
Eric Cardenas
Turn on flex first, then time stretch.
kronik
what mode do I use ? rhythmic ?
Eric Cardenas
That depends on the source. Logic does a pretty good job of auto-selecting for you. What are you stretching?
kronik
Im stretching vocals, drums , brass , bass etc basically its a live band and I want to go from 97 to 121 ..when I use varispeed or time stretch it loses quality.
Eric Cardenas
Yes. Flex is much "better" because you can tailor the algorithm for each track instead of the whole mix. You can use rhythmic, slice for drums. I often like monophonic for bass and polyphonic for vocals. The good thing when using flex is that you can change the algorithm whenever you want. It will always use the original file to process from. Another good thing is that you are compressing instead of stretching, which is much more forgiving. kronik
Ok so I just activated flex poly mode and then stretched a vocal by time and pitch and the vocal still sounds unnatural etc and once again it won't let me undo the stretch? David Nahmani
Don't use Time and Pitch. Make sure you're in Flex view, turn Flex on for the track, Logic should automatically choose the best algorithm for the type of recording. Then drag the upper right corner to stretch the region. kronik
Thanks David...it does work but unfortunately no matter which way I choose it always sounds wrong, all though your way does seem to be the best sounding. I think going from 97 to 123 is to much for Logic as when I used Maschine it sounded a lot better, still not perfect, but usable..
drakepeterdrake
You might try a demo of Melodyne Studio. I have found it does pitch shifting and tempo changes very well.

drakepeterdrake
It's expensive, but it does a really nice job.
