Tablature Settings not visible - how to assign midi channels and change tuning

Hi all,

I'm using Logic Pro X version 10.4.4. I enabled the Additional Tools for Score in Advanced Preferences, and I've been able to change my staff style to Guitar Tablature. However, I've been having trouble writing the tablature as it would be played, because every time I insert a note and drag the number up with the cursor, it skips to the string above after it reaches 3 or 4. So for example, if I'm trying to tab an A on the low E string, which would be at position 5, it would automatically skip up to a 0 on the A string. Technically the same note, but the wrong fret position. This matters because I want to use the tab to play from.

I've researched solutions and there seems to be a way to assign different MIDI channels to each string, effectively separating the strings, by going into the Tablature Project settings. But my Tablature Settings look a lot emptier than the examples I've found! My Strings and Assign columns seem to be missing - I only have a Name column.

Above is mine, and below is an example I found online.

I can get the fret numbers to go up past 3 or 4 by selecting the individual note and changing the MIDI channel in the Event Section to the left. But of course I'd prefer not to have to do this note by note, and I'd also like to be able to change the strings' open tuning.

If anyone knows how to make the Strings, Assign, and individual string tuning columns appear, or if you know a different way of finding these controls, I'd be grateful!

Hi Form members.

I too just discovered that I'm missing the details part of the Tablature window. I do not have "Strings", "Assign" or "string numbers". this thread is the only example I've found of this issue. Anybody suggestions would be great.

edit: my set up is:

Logic Pro X 10.4.8

Mac Pro 5.1

OS X 10.13.6

I just checked my tab menu after receiving a notice that this thread had been updated. What's really weird is that it's back to normal. I have no idea why it's fixed as I did nothing to directly solve the problem. I have made new templates since I first posted my response in this thread so perhaps a fresh template is uncorrupted.

I'd try making a new song template and see if that engages the missing menu items.

M.

Sorry guys I have been away - life is just crazy.

If your apple general preferences are set to not show scroll bars or set to automatic - it makes this issue more difficult to diagnose.

The problem is the first column is wider than the visible screen...

just scroll the the right - brining the first column visible - narrow the column and problem solved.
