Jordo
Hi everyone. I'm at an album record session now and we have wasted a ridiculous amount of time trying to solve this problem. I make a track stack of my guitar mics. Sometimes it works fine. Other times the stack does not let me mute it (unless I mute the tracks inside of it individually.) I have obsessively checked all of the buses and where everything is going in and out. I can not find a logical reason for this problem. I have also googled this problem and nothing I found online has helped. SOMETIMES restarting Logic has fixed it, but then it just happens again. Sometimes it doesn't help. I can't find any consistency. If anyone can make sense of this, I appreciate it.
Atlas007
Are you using solo-safe somewhere? Edited December 14, 2019 by Atlas007
Jordo
So I checked, the tracks with solo safe are "Prelisten" and "Click" Just now restarting Logic fixed it again. The problem is I can't keep shutting down and restarting Logic every 20 minutes. It's driving us crazy.

Besides resetting the SMC and the NVRAM/PRAM, have you checked the usual troubleshooting rundown?
Jordo
I am at a session now and the clock is ticking and I don't have time to do all of that at the moment. I don't know what SMC or NCRAM/PRAM is...I'm not the most technical person, hence asking for help here all the time of course.
Atlas007
You don't have to do every steps. but try few ones. For instance, you perhaps have a 3rd party plugin that is messing with the audio? Some in demo mode are acting weird at times... Here is how to perform an SMC & NVPRAM reset.
3ple
Quick tip: when the clock is ticking, don't be picky! Does it work if you mute the individual tracks? Then just do it and move on. Don't create stress where there's none. Muting 100 tracks is as easy as clicking the first track, clicking Shift and clicking the last track. All selected? Hit mute. Simple Is this how it's supposed to work? No. But does it work and solve the problem and you are not stressing out over it? Yes. Then just do it. Back to your issue: if that doesn't work, try another project and see if that happens as well. Sometimes Logic likes to act weird on some projects. If that's definitely a bug, maybe it's the version you're using, maybe it's the application itself, etc. If you can't figure out what it is, try to upgrade. If it still doesn't solve the problem: send the output of the track stack to another bus. Create a track to that bus. See if the mute works on that bus. If so, start using that workaround
robinloops
As mentioned in the last post, use a workaround if there is a suitable one, until you have time to address the issue. But also keep in mind, sometimes if half an hour of troubleshooting can save ten (hours) in the long run, it’s worth taking the time. cellicello
I had a similar issue when trying to mute summing Stack Tracks. I found that I had the Varispeed Mode On (turn orange) When back to normal (Varispeed Mode in blue) I could mute all tracks within the summing Stack! GrumpyKitten_tmp
I know this is old, but what helped me was to flatten the stack and then re-create it. I think the issue was that I imported some of the tracks / stack from a previous project and it just lost some of the internal data for muting and such. Re-creating the stack seemed to do the trick for me.
