bigbaldbaby
Hello, Total newbie here so excuse the ignorance. I have tried to search for this answer but cannot find the specific solution. I have been using Audacity to edit podcasts. Recently my wife purchased Logic Pro X as part of Apple Student package which includes FCPx. I am trying to use Logic to edit my podcast. In Audacity when I select a region in an audio track and press the backspace key, it removes that part of the track (most likely it was a hesitation or umm or something similar), then joins the track together automatically. In Logic Pro X when I select a region to delete in the track editor, pressing backspace deletes the audio but it then leaves a gap and creates two different sections within the same track. I then I have to manually move the sections together and then use the join or glue tool to make it one track. During a podcast there can be several instances that I want to do this. Mainly for removing hesitations or silences when someone is thinking of the answer or just removing a part I dont like. The process of moving the two new sections together and joining adds up and its taking me longer to edit in Logic Pro than in Audacity. I would love it if this is something that Logic Pro X can do, does anyone know how to do this? I would really appreciate any help. Thank you! David Nahmani
No, there's no way to do this in Logic.
fuzzfilth
You can set the Drag Mode to Shuffle Left. Now all you delete will close the gap with material to the right of that point. Like this: Why you would need to join the resulting Regions begs further explanation, though.
bigbaldbaby
Thanks for the replies. The reason I would want to do this is due to the fact that when editing a podcast vocal track, editing out all the umms and ahhs or other words, can result in over 50 different regions on the one track. When trying to move these about later it becomes difficult. Much easier if it is just one single region like in Audacity. Also if you have a second guest vocal track it's becomes harder to make sure they stay in sync if you have to keep moving regions together manually. But ultimately it's time. The time taken for me to move all these regions together adds up. I will try the Drag Mode option as that might work, thanks again!
fuzzfilth
I hear you. I regularly work with 100s, sometimes 1000s of Regions. Joining these over and over would create huge amounts of redundant data on disk and also take time to actually join every time, so that's impractical unless I actually need one continuous file for export etc. What's immensely helpful when dealing with lots of Regions are two key commands: - Select All Following - Select All Following On Same Track
bigbaldbaby
Thats brilliant. I will try that. Just trying the drag mode helped immensely! Thanks
