Logic Pro Help

I want to build a text fader in my environment that will select a midi port. I just want to traverse the fader and I don't want to do anything with dropboxes, like in the midi instrument. First idea would be to just create a bunch of midi instruments and connect the fader to all the midi instruments. That is some work, but that is not a problem. It becomes a problem when you need more faders. I can create a layer for every fader. That is not a problem either. However, what I am looking for is a more optimal solution if that is possible.
