Cannot import entire mp3 file

I have been given an mp3 file that needs splitting into smaller mp3s for each section. This should be a doddle, except for the fact that when I import it, only roughly 3/5ths of the audio makes its way into the project. The full mp3 file is 18hrs long, and 500mb in size.

 

Is this likely because Logic Pro X can only handle mp3 -> AIFF conversions up to a certain filesize?

 

Any insight would be massively appreciated.

I remember a file size limit of 4gb on AIFF and WAV files, maybe this still applies. Try setting the recording format to CAF, maybe that does the trick.
