Preferences vs. Project Settings

Why are they in two different places. It's annoying.

• Preferences are global.

You set preferences for Logic, and they apply to any project you open in Logic. An example of a preference is the audio interface you're using. You don't want to have to set it every time you open a project, for every individual project, so it's a preference: you set it once, and it's set for Logic, so that you can open any project you want and the audio interface used is the same.

Project Settings are individually set for each Logic project file.

Different projects can have different settings. An example of a project setting is the sample rate. You may want one project to be at 44.1 kHz while another is at 48 kHz, without having to change a sample rate preference every time you switch project, so it's a project setting: when you open project A it automatically sets your audio interface to 44.1 kHz, and when you close project A and open project B it automatically switches your audio interface to 48 kHz.
