Capture midi out from instrument using Midi FX Freeze

I have used midi FX freeze to capture the output from a midi plugin before which works great however I'm wondering if I can capture the midi out from an instrument using the environment?

Example: using an instrument that is using a built-in arpeggiator like Halion Sonic.

I know VST's can output generated MIDI data (i.e. such as Cubase where you can directly route that to the input of another track).

But i don't know if an AU even forwards MIDI data out to be able to capture it. Last time i checked it couldn't.

So if there's no data being spat out, even IAC bus wouldn't work as a getaround.

Something like Maschine you can do this by running it standalone mode and setting it's MIDI output to an IAC bus, and then picking that bus up within Logic.

That's probably the most achievable solution, but it's limited to instruments that can run standalone AND feature a MIDI out option - never tried Halion standalone to know if that's a possibility, but being standalone probably defeats your initial purpose i imagine. (?)
