sample
Hi to all! Since I constantly need to use LP9 and LPX for different tasks Sierra is the sweet spot for me because it's the last OS to support LP 9.1.8 but also supports LPX up to 10.4.4. Btw I've read of many people successfully running LP9 on Sierra while instead I have a considerable lag issue that I can’t find my way around. Up to LP 9.1.5 there is nearly no lag but there are big black vertical lines that follow the cursor when in play. If I upgrade to 9.1.6 up to 9.1.8 the black lines disappear but the lag issue appears. LPX works perfectly, only a tiny lag is present but I can easily live with it. I have a 5,1 (flashed from 4,1) Mac Pro with: - 2 x 2,26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon - 28 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 - AMD Radeon HD 7950 3Gb Sierra 10.12.6 running from an SSD As many suggest I already tried disabling iCloud in Sierra (which I’ve never actually activated in the first place). I also replaced the old original GPU NVIDIA Geforce GT 120 (512 Mb) with an HD 7950 (3Gb) but nothing changed. Also tried a new fresh install of Sierra with just LP9 installed but still got the issue. Here’s a video I’ve uploaded showing the LP 9.1.8 issue (turn volume on in order to hear the mouse click sound to appreciate the visual lag): Here’s LP 9.1.8 visual lag issue with Sierra in detail: - never had crash issues - sound is perfect, NO glitches - dragging along any window has NO lag but, as you can see in the video: - green elastic rectangle selection via mouse HAS a lag (as if it stores all the click inputs and then executes them all while you’ve already stopped) - selecting a region with the mouse HAS a lag - zooming in the arrange window HAS a lag …and more BTW if I move to an area of the arrange window where no regions are present the lag reduces a lot! (see second half of video..) Does this behaviour ring any bells for you? What could be causing the lag? Thanks a lot for your kind help guys, I badly need to run both LP9 and LPX. sample
Hi guys, I use Logic Pro X but I also need to use Logic Pro 9.1.8 pretty often, unfortunately though I get this nasty lag issue (turn volume on to hear click): I already disabled iCloud to no avail, can anyone kindly suggest the cause of this lag? I've read of many successfully running LP 9.1.8 on Sierra 10.12.6 with no issue.. Thanks!
David Nahmani
Do you get the same issue in a new empty project?
sample
Hey David thanks for your prompt response! If I start with an empty project the lag is greatly reduced, still kinda there, but greatly reduced, then as soon as I start adding tracks, instruments, regions etc it gets worse and worse.. As a matter of fact I need to point out that LPX 10.4 also has a lag, but ONLY in the process of selecting a region, the blue elastic selection has no lag… And here too the lag gets worse and worse as the project builds up. David Nahmani
Can you check the size of your undo history? Try to delete it or reduce its number of steps in Logic's preferences, see if that helps?
sample
emptied undo data folders, set undo steps down to 2 in both LP9 and LPX, but the lag's still there...
David Nahmani
Is there plenty of free room available on your system drive?
sample
It's a 500 Gb SSD, mounted in sata bay 1 of the Mac Pro, it has 236 Gb free, LP9 and LPX are the only software or data present in addition to the system files of Sierra.. David Nahmani
That's plenty. Then the next thing I would try is to create a new user account on your Mac and see if 9.1.8 is snappier for that new user?
sample
Sorry it took me a while, ok so I created a new user account but LPX still showed the same lag while, I don't know why, LP9 kept crashing, I just couldn't get it to start? Btw it still lags on LPX...

David Nahmani
You're welcome, best of luck. If you end up figuring out what it is that is producing the lagging please do update this topic, it could help someone else. I hope you end up finding out.
