JoshJ
I have a new Mac M1 16GB. I'm running moderately sized sessions. My CPU meter only ever reaches about 1/3 used but when i select different channel etc the wheel of death regularly appear for 5 seconds or so. Session are generally sluggish. I'm running Logic in Rosetta. Has this got something to do with it?
stratquebec
Don't know but: External device(s)? Third party plug-in? Same problem using the built-un audio?
JoshJ
Thanks. No external devices in the equation and HD meter is barely being touched. I'm only using Waves and FF so shouldn't be a plugin issue there. Approx 90 tracks with 6 plugins per channel. Just thought seeming how my CPU usage is so low, the project should be running smoothly as a rule of thumb?
Ploki
did you do migration or fresh install? if you did migration likely what ever was causing this has migrated with it. Generally running logic under rosetta works fine.
stratquebec
And it seems according to this link that Waves plugs aren't officially supported so... https://www.waves.com/support/waves-with-apple-m1-processors
Ploki
they work fine over here tho
JoshJ
I did a fresh install, no migration. Waves aren't officially supported no but work fine with Rosetta. Copying channel strips, saving project, selecting channels & moving playhead during playback - all creating performance issues.
stratquebec
So the problem remains even with all the Waves plugins disabled? Same problem with a new fresh project using only Logic's plugins?
JoshJ
I’ll give it a go. The point is I think it is the weight of the 3rd party plugs but I feel the M1 should be able to handle it.
facej
Are you running Logic Pro 10.6 or Logic Pro X 10.5? Where are the project files? Internal SSD? External project disk? Which Waves plugins in particular? How do you have "processing" set? Automatic? Fixed number of cores? I have automatic processing, 10 channels, 2 Waves plugins per channel. One core is bumping to 75% No issues with beachball. Logic is using 2.1GB of RAM - if I had 90 channels with 6 plugins (540!) I would expect more memory being used.
