Importing audio file in Logic

Ah, okay. I did this now. Now it appears in a folder in Finder. Is it better to save future projects this way?

Then I wont be needing the old project anymore, right?

I like Folders. You can do a Save As with every project.

I just noticed that the new file is heavier then the former file.

I would rather keep one, if the other one isnt needed anymore.

 

Okay. I just opened the new one and dragged in the mp3 file. Unfortunately the file is sped up here as well.

Is “audio files” selected in your project asset settings? Is the mo3 converted to PCM upon importing?

Try importing thru the Files window on the right. Hit F on the keyboard to open that window, then Control F to import and choose this file.

This is how I saved it.

But I did not convert it in PCM yet. When I find converters online they suggest that PCM is Wav, and Im not sure if that is what I'm supposed to converted to?

You need to organize as Folder.

Only include Audio Files. You do not need Alchemy files.

First, follow triplet's advice regarding saving. You shouldn't have to convert to PCM, Logic can handle that for you. How do you import the mp3 file exactly?

aaaaall right! I finished recording and producing this song. And I do wanna import that mp3 file correctly. I did follow the instructions above, from triplet, importing through the project files. Pressing F and then dragging in. It happens the same thing as if I drag it in from finder. It doesnt work unfortunately.

I wanna add that, when I hear the audio file from the project files it sounds fine. Only once dragged in the track it speeds up.

Make sure your tempo is set to KEEP before you import the file.

Don't drag.

After pressing F, press Control-F to select the file manually. This way you can preview the file as well to see if it speeds up already.

Im kind of in a hurry, cause I gotta submit 4 songs in 1 1/2 weeks. So I might just leave it like that. I have followed all the instructions, but nothing seems to work. I just gonna leave it in standby for now, at least until Im done with producing the missing elements of the remaining 3 songs.

I never thought that this impairment of importing mp3 files would strike back at the very last minute before having to deliver. I need to figuer out a way to import this mp3 file, unchanged. Here a demonstration of how it should look. On the very left.

This is not 100% accurate since the left verision is a 1/7 longer (extended) than the mp3 I want to import. Should be similarly long though.

Logic converts all compressed files like mp3 and aac to wav or aiff depending on your recording settings.

So whatever you drag over from the Audio Files window is not an mp3 anymore.

So I don't understand why you get that Logic dialog that the file doesn't exist anymore.

It's obvious it doesn't exist anymore because it got converted to PCM format.

Additionally, keep in mind that mp3 is a format destined for final distribution, not production. For production you should work with PCM formats.

Use audio routing software to re-record the file in real time?

Unfortunately I couldnt figuer out how to do the routing. I didnt find much info about it in the internet.

So at the end I just made some technical improvements to the song in order to get the result I wanted.

You need 3rd party software to do the routing. I use Loopback when I need to route audio in between applications: https://rogueamoeba.com/loopback/
