Distortion from mic at low input levels....

Hi guys, just been through hell for a couple of days trying to get a mic input signal and just now resolved it - brand new Cloudlifter is bad on both Cloudlifter channels. Anyway, I was excited to get up and running again with no Cloudlifter but I’m recording distortion even when recording at very low levels - nothing even close to the yellow. Tried backing off input levels at my interface software and in logic but no luck - any suggestions?
