Pianoworldstage
Hi Concerning timing vs tempo, is the quantization feature in Logic only for tracks recorded with a metronome? Example, if i we're to record the piano in free form, and found throughout the course of recording there were parts and phrases out of time, could quantization render those parts and phrases correct? Because up until now I've had to manually apply tempo nodes using "Global Track Automation" the job gets done, but time is a great factor. fuzzfilth
Quantization can pull notes/events to Logic's grid. If you weren't playing/listening to that grid during the recording, it's pointless.

fuzzfilth
Basically yes. Although you might first beat map to roughly align Logic's grid to a wild (off the grid) recording and then refine the recording by quantizing it to Logic's now matching grid, but that's not an entirely trivial exercise. David Nahmani
Therefore without the use of the metronome whilst recording, "quantization" is meaningless? Not necessarily: you could beat map a rubato recording to make the grid fit to strong points in your recording, then quantize the recording to that grid. How i would like to attempt that very process to improve a solo Piano free form recording, however i suppose complexed would be an understatement? David Nahmani
Not necessarily complex, but you have to learn the beat mapping process and arm yourself with patience. https://support.apple.com/guide/logicpro/lgcp624214db/mac
