Groove Template Voodoo - how is this being achieved?

Hi, a while ago I downloaded a free Logic template project, full of quantisation grooves from classic drum machines (this looks like it may have come from https://seandivine.com/vintage-groove - now dead.)

While searching to see if there was a way to export the grooves into a new Logic template I'm using (note: doesn't look like it!) I read that if you delete the original files from which the groove was taken, from your Logic project, the Groove Template in question will cease working. What's really curious about this free template project I downloaded is that it has all the grooves, and they definitely work, but it doesn't seem to contain any files. I've checked for hidden folders, and I've check the project assets - both empty. Am I forgetting to look somewhere?

And if anyone does know how to export grooves, I'd love to know! Also, if anyone knows how to delete the files from which grooves were taken, and retain the groove, that would be appreciated, too.

Thanks, David! That's a shame. So I guess if the original MIDI regions can't be found within the project there's no way to extract them? They must be there, somewhere! But I can't see any hidden tracks. It's just made me curious :)

> Do you want to share your project file here

Sure. Because the page offering the template is offline, and I'm unsure of the reasons for that, I've popped it here as a time-limited link: https://www.dropbox.com/t/rOiro7NIG4TWew1S

For anyone else reading this post down the line, you can get very similar groove files here, for free (main difference is that there is a bit of work involved - you have to create the Groove Templates yourself) https://samplesfrommars.com/products/grooves-from-mars

No, I don't see the regions in that project indeed, you're completely right.

To extract them you could create a MIDI region with one note on each division, then copy that region a bunch of time and apply an individual groove quantize pattern to each. That way you're recreating the original MIDI regions. There doesn't seem to be any velocity data in those groove templates (Q-Velocity doesn't have an effect) however there is some Length data (Q-Length does have an effect), so make sure you find a way to extract it as well if it's important for you (for example for a hi-hat): apply a bit of Q-Length before you export the MIDI regions.

Appreciate the sanity check - curious how that is being achieved.

Extracting them ... yes I was wondering about that. Couldn't quite work out what to do because I don't understand how it works under the hood. I wasn't sure how small to go with the divisions and whether I could use any note. I experimented with creating 64th divisions, as well as larger divisions, to see what would happen to each, but then realised it didn't offer any insight because I didn't quite understand how Logic uses these behind the scenes - haha

PS Here's what a fairly extreme MPC Groove of 75% did to a bar of 64th notes.
