Recommended Posts

[LAST UPDATED NOVEMBER 25th, 2021]

If you know of plug-ins that should be added to this list, please reply below and I'll add them. For each listing I've provided a link to the official announcement by the manufacturer, or a link to a post here that details where the information was found.

Not supported under Rosetta 2:

This does not mean the software listed below will not run under Rosetta 2, it means only that the manufacturer either haven't tested it under Rosetta 2, or have tested it and found it not fully compatible

• Apogee Digital (Symphony I/O, Ensemble, Element, One, Duet, Quartet) link

• Arturia link

• Audio Damage link

• DrumForge link

• IK Multimedia link

• Steve Slate Digital link

What is Rosetta 2?

Rosetta 2 is a translator that allows Intel software to run on the new Silicon machines. It's not meant to be a substitute for an app that runs natively on the new M1 processors. Apps unsupported under Rosetta 2 may or may not work: while many work just fine, some may present odd GUI distortions, crash validation, or appear sluggish.

I thought Rosseta meant you could use all plugins that don't support M1 on the new M1 mac's but that's not the case or? I'm confused.

Not compatible:

• Antares: https://www.antarestech.com/os-compatibility/

• Apogee Digital (Symphony I/O, Ensemble, Element, One, Duet, Quartet): https://apogeedigital.com/home-feature- ... nformation

• Arturia: https://www.arturia.com/faq/utilization ... os-big-sur

• IK Multimedia: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-su ... 0M1%20chip.

• Native Instruments: https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... 0014683497

• Soundtoys: https://support.soundtoys.com/article/4 ... patibility

• Steve Slate Digital (end 2021 — beginning 2022): https://slatedigital.zendesk.com/hc/en- ... rocessors-

• Universal Audio: https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articl ... ility-Info

• Waves: https://www.waves.com/support/waves-wit ... processors

So this means that you can't use the NOT COMPATIBLE plug-ins on M1 mac's even with Rosetta or i'm wrong?

Yes, that's what it means, in theory. However basically Rosetta is a translator, and running an app with a translator is not guaranteed. Some manufacturers have tested it and support it, while others have either not tested it yet, or tested it and determined that they weren't happy with the results. Sometimes the interface looks odd. Sometimes the plug-in will crash. Other times, the app or plug-in will run just fine. But you make a good point, I've renamed that category "Not supported" rather than "Not compatible". Thanks for pointing that out.

Audio Editors I use.

I have TwistedWave as the external editor in Logic.

DSP-Quatro

https://www.dsp-quattro.com/dspquattro/Site/product.html

TwistedWave

https://twistedwave.com/mac

Both added. Thanks!

You have TwistedWave under Rosetta 2 but it does run as a Native M1 application.

with native support for Apple Silicon / the M1 chip.

Just compatible, or Native? Pretty much all my 3rd party plugins function, though some of IK's stuff isn't quite right.

The list I started is Native-compatible, but we could have another that is Rosetta2-compatible.

Wow, I really appreciate you taking the Big Sur —> M1 tangent an running with it in such a comprehensive way! Super useful!

Great! Good to hear you find it useful. It takes a bit of time to research these things thoroughly but at least I have all the links to the official manufacturer announcements so we know it's not just hear-say.
