EXS24 - Problem with triggering sustain pedal noise

Hello! First off, I'm sorry for using EXS24 and not the new sampler. I'm waiting to update my Logic until I buy a new computer.

I've been trying to research how to trigger samples when I engage/release the sustain pedal on my piano library. What I did find was that you can use "Select Group By", set the Type to Control, "No." to 64 and then lo/hi to 0-63 and 64-127 respectively for the pedal up/down groups. My results from this was a bit confusing though. Instead of triggering the samples when I engage/disengage the sustain pedal, the samples play as soon as I press a key and the sustain pedal just switches between the two samples. What am I missing here? Is it possible to make the sustain pedal actually play the sample?

Thanks for the help!

Haven't tried this before, but the pedal would have to send a MIDI note on/off command, not CC information, so under conventional usage I doubt it's possible. I know Modifier can change CC data into note information, but on a quick test, I couldn't figure out how that would be helpful… Maybe you could do some fine-tuning in the Environment to convert the pedal signal, but in the end you're still just using note signals to trigger things.

What are you trying to achieve here? Just adding an additional sample that can be played with the pedal? Or trying to essentially keyswitch between a couple sets of samples?

Hello! Thanks for the reply! Yes, I'm trying to add additional samples that will be played with the pedal. I was able to use it as a keyswitch using the method I described. I like your ideas! Are these things possible within EXS24 or is it something you'd do in the actual project? I'm only interested right now if it's possible to do within EXS24 since I want to be able to send the library to other people without any hassle. If there's no native support for it I guess it's probably smarter to just leave it out right now.

Well, what you'd have to do is assign that sample to a MIDI note, then tell Logic to interpret the pedal as an additional note instead of CC 64. The latter wouldn't be possible within EXS24 as far as I know, though someone with a higher pay grade may come along and correct me.

Is there some reason the pedal has to be the one playing the note?
