Mark1971
Often when I'm using flex time I gets these artifacts (little knock sounds) where I moved the marker, just before or just after. I'm editing the timing of a vocal and it's kind of annoying. I'm not moving the markers anything crazy either. I've re-started my Mac and Logic but it's still happening. My cpu meter is hitting below 25% usage. Any ideas on how to stop this from happening?
Atlas007
Have you tried with different flex modes? OTOH, Logic will not succeed certain audio edition as well as Melodyne...
Mark1971
Hi...I mean, I guess I could but this is a vocal so I thought monophonic would be the best choice. I do have Melodyne but I mainly use that for pitch. I just learned about smart tempo and that works really good but can I add swing after I do that? Solution David Nahmani Posted July 21, 2021 Solution Share Posted July 21, 2021 I would try to clean up the position of the transient markers in the Audio File editor before moving the Flex markers, in transient editing mode. Make sure the transients end up in the right positions:
Mark1971
Interesting.....I will try that. I always forget about the Audio file Editor.
Mark1971
Moving those transient markers first definitely makes all the difference. But it takes time..... I'm sure I'll get better and faster at it.

Mark1971
Wow...so no matter where I move this transient marker it still produces an artifact after I go back to the edit window and move the flex marker. I want that dotted line (that will be a flex marker) to be right on 45:2 but when I do it produces the artifact. This transient marker is tough to place because there isn't a clear transient to move it too. What do i do in a case like this?
David Nahmani
Can you describe what you're trying to do, musically? It's not a typical situation to want to create a flex marker were there isn't a transient.
Mark1971
Right....So there's an issue where when i try to move a flex marker it causes a little "knock" artifact. So, taking your great advice I've gone into the audio file editor and cleaned up where the transient marker should be lined up with the transient. It's worked a bunch of times but I've got one where the transient is difficult to pinpoint; so, after I guess where it should be I go back into the edit window to now move the flex marker where I want it and the artifact is still there. I hope I'm making sense:)
David Nahmani
Ok, but what I'm asking is, in musical terms (non-tech terms), what are you trying to achieve exactly? Is this a vocal that you're trying to time differently, a guitar slide....?
Mark1971
This vocalist's timing is a bit ahead of the beat right at this point so I'm trying to move the marker back so that it's more in the pocket.
David Nahmani
Ok, great, so why can't you locate the transient? Is he, for example, at this point, just sliding from one vowel into another?
Mark1971
Yeah, it's like two words put together. She's kind of rap/singing so there's no definitive break between the two sounds.
