Logic only allows hard panning with control surface

Can anyone help me figure this out? Whenever I try panning with my control surface Logic only registers hard right (+63) hard Left (-64) or Center (0). I originally thought it had something to do with the control surface but when I use the pan button on my control surface with other software I am able to get incremental adjustments. Only Logic displays this behavior.

When I use my mouse to pan I can get incremental but not with the control surface.

What am I missing here?

Thanks,

Yitz

Is that an XTouch? Why not use it "out of the box" without going through individual assignments?

My guess is that the other software uses the built-in integration for it.

Many DAW controllers have a special protocol that involves sending one command for "knob is turned to the right" and another one for "knob is turned to the left" and not the actual value of the knob. The software then figures out the value. It's a bit like an increment/decrement controller. This is one of those situations.

Sometimes this has to do with telling Logic what kind of "values" its working with. Whether it's Signed, Unsigned, 1's Compliment, 2's Compliment... if I recall correctly.

Short story, this is related to what "format" the values are transmitted in. Having the wrong format could possibly lead to the kind of behaviour you're experiencing.

OK I figured out the solution. “Rebuild Defaults” did not help. Neither did deleting the Mackie Controller and re-installing.

What made the difference was a setting in the “Control Surface Setup” there is a setting towards the bottom for “Relative Change Mode”.

By default it is set to “Full”. In order for panning to be incremental it needs to be set to “Fine”. (NOT “Course” or “Full”).

[i’m happy I figured this out because it was getting to be a “pan in the neck” ;)]

I hope this helps anyone else who has this issue.

Thank you all for your replies!!!
