Drumkit input mapping not working properly

Hi guys,

 

I usually produce rock music, but as I don't have a real drum kit, I use Logic's midi drum kit instead. In this particular song I'm working on, I thought it would sound more real to change the input mapping from 'GM' to 'GM+Modwheel controls hi-hat opening level'.

 

The problem is, that when I programme a standard 1/8 note rock beat, every second hi-hat sounds really dry, as if I had just removed all the ambient reverb on the kit. And sometimes they cut out completely,.. Any suggestions? I would really love to use this feature but I can't get it to properly work.

In this file I have created as a test, I have used the exact same drumkit as in my actual project, but I have created this for simplicity. The hi-hat notes are in straight 8th notes, but I recorded my controllers modwheel, as to change the hi-hat opening, but it cuts out some of the notes.

I think it sounds fine here? It doesn't cut out anything, just the lower velocity notes on the upbeats don't ring as much as the other ones, which is to be expected because of their lower velocity.

It's hard to tell what you're hearing vs what you're expecting to hear? Can you attach a link to a bounced audio file of what you're hearing?

Oh ok so some notes are just not playing at all on your Mac. It's possible that you're missing some samples? Do you get that issue with all drum kits or just this one?

I get it with all the drum kits, and the silent notes seem to be different every time, I really have no clue. Do you think a computer upgrade would solve this? I have been meaning to get a new one as my current one is getting sluggish.

In order to determine what would solve this we need to find the reason why it's doing this, and for that we need to continue troubleshooting.

 

Try to click on the right-hand side of the blue plug-in insert for your Drum Kit Designer and choose Sampler. Open the Sampler plug-in, and see if any samples are missing?

I don't see a drum kit designer, just the drumkit plugin and it doesn't show any of the samples.

Where you see "Drum Kit" is actually the Drum Kit Designer plug-in: click-hold the right-hand side of the insert and choose Sampler:

 

Alright, where do I find the samples? I looked in the mapping section, and all 83 of them seem to be there but I'm not sure

In Sampler, click the Zone view button at the top right and see if all zones have a file associated with them?

 

I checked all of the zones labelled with an 'HH' (I assume that means hihat) and they all are linked to a .caf file

OK then can you save a copy of that project with the Sampler selected, with all media files selected under "Copy to project", so that I could have a look? How to attach files to your post

I'm a bit confused about the copy to project thing, but I chose File > Save A Copy As > and I selected all of the checkboxes so hopefully it should work.

To save the test copy project, choose File > Save As, give it a new name and location on your disk, and then select all the boxes and radio buttons as per below:

I've tried pretty much most things I can think of and I can't get it to work. Though it works fine on my laptop which is much newer, so I think it's a hardware problem. I will probably order the M1x Mac mini when they become available as I am in need of a newer system.

Is your Mini a 4gb ram machine ? Take a look at your ram usage in activity monitor when playing the project ?

It's a 16gb ram model, the performance depends on the project, but the drum problem doesn't work on any project, big or small
