JoshJ
Why does my project freeze and my Logic CPU spike every time I open a particular project? Is it likely just the size of the project or are there other likely culprits?
des99
It probably depends on what and how many plugins Logic needs to load in your project, and what each of those plugins need to do when they load. You *want* the CPU to be maxing out, because you want the computer to do that work as fast as possible.
JoshJ
Ok thanks. It’s just taking a matter of minutes to stop freezing once the project window is open. I thought the plugins load BEFORE the project window opens, whilst the progress bar is loading and you see all the plug-in names pop up? des99
Not necessarily. Modern versions of Logic have a deferred load feature which only loads plugins that are active in the session, and loads others on demand. But it's difficult to know for sure what's going on in your case without troubleshooting the particular project...
JoshJ
Ok I don’t think that is the issue as the Logic should load plugins on demand until I target the then channel with my mouse, right? What’s the point in waiting minutes for a project to load on the progress bar dialog, only for the project to open and then freeze and make you wait another number of minutes while it load some more plugins, and not give you a 2nd progress bar to let you know what it’s up to? des99
Yes, I wasn't saying it was the issue, just giving you an example why things don't always load up front. Like I say, you'll need to troubleshoot the project, have a look at your RAM use, what's different between this project and other projects, check if the project is corrupted, trying saving out versions without groups of plugins to see whether that improves load times etc etc.
