tvganesh
Hi, I bought a Mac with Logic Pro installed. However I can't find it in Applications folder. While configuring I migrated all data from my Macbook Pro. Would it have overwritten the software. That would be highly unlikely and stupid. Can you please help. Also the latest OS was also updated and there was a restart. Still can't find it. Please help Regards Ganesh
David Nahmani
Hi Ganesh, It's possible that when you migrated your own data, you've overwritten the apps previously installed on the Mac. However to put things in perspective, when you purchase a Mac with apps installed, you're still not licensed to use those apps, meaning that legally, they're not yours to use. Software isn't something you purchase. Instead, what you're purchasing is a license to use the software. Once you own the license, it doesn't really matter how many times you install the software, or on how many Macs, you've bought the right to use the software. And Logic Pro licenses are not transferable. That means the only way you can purchase a license is by buying it yourself on the App Store. Then it doesn't matter if you overwrite it or if you sell or lose your Mac, you can always re-download it because you already own the license. Like the person who sold you the Mac: assuming they purchased a Logic Pro license from the App Store, they can't sell you that license. So they may leave Logic Pro installed on the Mac they sell you but they can continue to download and use Logic Pro on as many Macs as they purchase. If you also continue using the Logic Pro copy they had installed, then that's no longer legal. So the only way to rectify this situation is to purchase your own legit Logic Pro license on the App Store.
Studio162A
Is it possible that Ganesh purchased a new Mac from Apple with Logic Pro pre-installed? Jim
Dynamic_Notes
@Studio162A - yes its possible. When I bought my new Mac in 2019 part of that purchase included a new Logic at the same time. I was able to go this route as my Mac was a custom build. The only other way to get Logic is through the App Store.
