Newest of Newbies Needs Setup Help

So, I am getting more up-to-date (sort of) with my Logic setup. I actually would like to set things up first for Garageband and graduate to Logic, so please keep that in mind.

When I say I'm updating it means I'm leaving my 2008 Mac Pro tower behind and graduating to a Macbook Pro mid-2015 running Mojave (there's a reason for this). I'm leaning towards the Audient and SSL2+ (the latter offers MIDI, which I need to accommodate my ancient Yamaha controller) but any suggestions on interfaces, etc., is much appreciated.

The Logic-related things I am wondering are:

1. Thunderbolt or USB external SSD?

2. Optimal SSD size (if any) reliable brands(?)

3. Version of Logic (if this is possible to choose!) Again, must be compatible with Maschine MK2, hence Mojave OS as MK2 is not compatible with Big Sur.

My Macbook Pro Mid-2015

2.5 Ghz

500 GB internal drive

16 GB RAM

Dual Graphics

I was running Logic 10.2 on my other computer, so I imagine I could port that over to the Macbook, but, again I'm new to all of this so not sure. I've read it's, like, near impossible to download (or downgrade) to older versions of Logic. Workarounds? I am very much reliant on the Maschine for my percussion needs.

I'm revamping to record songs and incidental music for my latest rock musical. The tower mentioned above has been slowly dying. Sorry for the longwindedness here but I'm not really sure which information is relevant to this matter and what is not.

Any advice is much appreciated & I thank you in advance!
