Newbie Question RE: RAM / Disk Too Slow

A lifelong PC user, I've recently purchased my first Macbook Pro (2017 with 8GB RAM), and just this year purchased LogicProX. I'm having issues with even the simplest playback of multiple MIDI files, with SYSTEM TOO SLOW, etc. message appearing. I realize this is part user-learning curve, and is a common issue, but after reading some posts here, I think maybe my settings are screwy or something.

EXAMPLE: I had 5 MIDI tracks (all Steinway piano, for overdubs, cut/comps, etc.) and only ONE audio track ( a scratch vocal). Can't even record audio. I don't know exactly what I'm doing wrong, but this can't be simply a lack of RAM, can it? Like I said, I'm a very new user to both the Mac world and Logic, so any tips or thoughts would be helpful. I'd really like to keep this 2017 for a few years before having to purchase another. 8GB 'should' be plenty for basic demo projects, I'd think, but I'm even reading on here that some people had numerous tracks and had no trouble with their 8GB machines.

SPECS I'm using: Big Sur 11.6, 3.1 GHz Dual core i5, 8 GB RAM 2.33MHz LPDDR3

Thank you for any tips, or links, you feel might help.
