noshirtkilla
I mostly have encountered this problem in Sampler and other third party software instruments such as Spitfire Labs. I will load a patch, it will play properly for a few seconds and then the sound will mostly pan hard left despite both the channel and the instrument being panned center. This has been going on for months and the only solution I've found is to simply use Sampler instruments in mono, which is an annoying fix. I'm in the latest Logic 10.7.1 and using macOS Big Sur 11.3.1on an early 2015 Macbook Pro 13-inch Retina. here's a screenshot that illustrates the problem: any help would be deeply appreciated. thanks! triplets
Are you using a keyboard controller?
noshirtkilla
Are you using a keyboard controller? yes, I'm using an Akai MPK 249. I just disconnected it and used musical typing, and the problem was still happening... BUT, i removed the Sampler plugin and started over with the controller disconnected, and so far I'm having no problems using musical typing. so i think you may be onto something here... any idea if this would mean the controller is faulty or if there's a fix? triplets
The controller could be sending panning messages. See if anything besides note message shows in the event list when using the controller.
noshirtkilla
yep, there's some pan data coming through:

noshirtkilla
alright so we're almost there... how do i stop this from happening in the future? thanks again for all your help!
fuzzfilth
Replace the keyboard with a properly working one. Either that, or program the faulty one to not send any Pan data at all, if possible.
David Nahmani
alright so we're almost there... how do i stop this from happening in the future? thanks again for all your help! The best is to tackle the problem at the source: figure out why or how the keyboard is sending those messages. Have it repaired if it's faulty, or set it up so that it no longer sends those messages. Or replace it with a keyboard that works properly. If that's not possible right now then you can filter out the pan messages in Logic: 1. In a hurry, choose File > Project Settings > MIDI :: Input Filter and select Control Changes. This will filter out the Pan events but also ALL controller data including mod wheel, sustain pedal, and pretty much any knob or fader on your controller. May or may not help. 2. Want to take more time to set up a filter only for Pan events? Open the MIDI Environment, go to the Clicks and Ports layer and create a Transformer that you insert in between the Physical Input and the Sequencer Input objects, set up to filter out MIDI CC #10 events (Let us know if you need further help with that).
