Easiest way to input notes w/o a musical keyboard?

I don't have my keyboard with me while here visiting relatives. I want to work on a simple piece for harmonies. What's the easiest way to input notes without a musical keyboard? I see, Show Keyboard, Show Musical Typing, Show Step Input Keyboard. Thanks.

Thanks David. The pencil tool works fine. I just figured out I can record without playing in the Main Window, and Logic will create an empty staff if I want to use the pencil tool for bringing notes into the score window.

Yes or just control-click the track and choose Create MIDI Region, then open that in the Score editor.

Don't forget the Touch Bar keyboard for those with a Touch Bar. Touch Bar is available on an iPad being used in Sidecar mode - handy.

Just grab your phone and start humming. Or singing, or whistling, or whatever. Talk to yourself. Grab the idea. Because, even a few minutes(!) later, it will be gone as though it never happened. Stick a pin through that butterfly and stick it on the board so it can never fly away. Having captured it, you can then decide what (if anything ...) to do with it later. You only get one very-brief chance at this.

Yes! Ideas do have a tendency to fly away quickly!
