Minimoog
Howdy, folks. Show of hands, who else finds this new “optimized battery life” function on new Macs obnoxious and unnecessary. Ive been using Macs for years, what is this now?….tracking my usage and “optimizing the charging” when plugged in? Give me a break https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212049
fuzzfilth
Speaking from the safe distance of my expert armchair, charging past 75% or so actually is said to diminish battery lifespan, so I guess it's not a bad feature ? What specifically don't you like about it and why don't you switch it off then ?
fisherking
yes, what's the problem exactly? is it impacting your mac usage in some way..?
des99
I'm not sure what the problem is. It's a feature that has some good benefits, particularly in certain use-case scenarios, and if it doesn't suit you, has a nice easy on/off switch, so you can choose whether you want to use it or not. If you don't like it, turn it off...
MikeRobinson
Lithium-Ion batteries have some strange chemistry. In another example, you really want to keep your phone "mostly charged-up" all the time instead of letting it drain-down completely. Your phone (no matter what kind it is) will also have some kind of "battery control panel" which will tell you how many "full-charge cycles" you have left, and it may offer options for optimizing battery life. You probably do want to assume that your Mac knows what it is doing ... and, if you know that you're about to take it off external power for an extended period, you can "top it off" upon request.
