quietstorm
Would someone be kind enough to do a loopback test on Logic 9 and see if they can get tighter timing than what I posted above? Then we can be sure if it was an issue that was fixed in LPX or not
fuzzfilth
I say this without judgement, but I guess there won't be many folks concerned with MIDI-timing at the nerd-level who also still run L9...
des99
I can only run LP9 in a VM these days, which I guess isn't ideal for checking timing and jitter performance...

gacki
Source is again left. 9.1.8, 32bit on a 2006 Macbook Pro under 10.6.8; again through a MT4.
fuzzfilth
Can you repeat this with shorter notes, say 200 ticks, so the Ons and Offs don't fall on each other causing one of them to move ?
gacki
As you wish:

quietstorm
As you wish: Bildschirmfoto 2021-06-25 um 21.49.51.png what .. the .. hell. Gacki, how long is the usb cable going from your interface? Can you run LP9 64-bit on your computer? Any settings you can think of that are contributing to my subpar midi timing? Thank you for doing this
gacki
Just to be clear: Those tests were done "MIDI to MIDI" directly from MIDI tracks through the MT4. I just did another test with an instrument track and the "external instrument" plugin to another instrument track (also through the MT4); here all notes were one tick early. gacki
Gacki, how long is the usb cable going from your interface? Can you run LP9 64-bit on your computer? My USB cable is pretty short right now (perhaps about 30 cm?). I just re-did the test with LP9 64bit: same results.
quietstorm
Can you let me know what firmware version you're running on the MT4? completely baffled at this point, I've done the following: - shortened USB cable (from about 15' to 8') - changed USB ports - changed MIDI cable - tested Unitor 8 and AMT8 separately - reinstalled Unitor driver - disabled all AU plugins - ran 32 bit or 64 bit kernel - changed I/O buffer - low latency mode ... and I can't get < 2 ticks jitter on MIDI loopback. I don't know what I'm missing here. Jitter seems to be tempo dependent - @ 60 bpm ~1 tick, at 240 bpm ~3 ticks. Only odd thing I've noticed is the port #8 Midi Out light on the Unitor blinks during rec/playback even though there's no Metronome out or MTC/clock out selected, and nothing is connected to that port.
