UltraDrum to Aux / Grouping

ok I'm frustrated!!

I have an ultradrum (multi ch.) on an instr. track.

I am sending my kiks out of outs 3-4

snares 5-6

and hh 7-8.

and receiving back on stereo aux's.

First off, I'm sending out of stereo outs because when I send mono

and I go to my kik aux it comes out both L.R

but when I go to my snare aux my kik will only come out of the L.

QUESTION- can I see more than 1 or 2 aux's at a time?

if so, HOW?

Second, I have my ultradrum set up how I explained before, but

when my song gets about 1/2 way in my kik and snare come out of my

main outputs. Which totally goes away from having seperate aux's

and grouping my channels.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? :?:

I'm not sure what you mean. You can setup as many Aux channels as you need, and set their inputs to Ultrabeat 3-4. 5-6. 7-8....

Or you can make mono Aux Channel Strips and assign their inputs to Ultrabeat 3, 4, 5...

The little circle/double-circle icon at the bottom of the level fader on the channel strip determines wether the strip is mono or stereo. Click it to toggle the status.

Agree on David's points.

Your problem is most likely the setting of the Aux channel strips.

There's little mileage to be had out of sending the kickdrum as a

stereo pair ! Waste of a potential channel. Same goes for individual

tom hits, really - they need pan position but ambience is best dealt with

later on in the chain. With virtual drums, you don't have much call for

anything to be sent out in stereo, actually. It's different if you have a

track with overheads as well as your live kit.

Snare, if it's actually sampled in stereo, is worth keeping that way. Although

often the L-R balance of the snare will have to be tweaked in the mix to

sound natural. Hats seem to just fuzz up when sampled stereo, probably

because this freq range is far more sensitive to phase errors anyway.

The secret with something like Ultrabeat or RMIV is to get your sources

nice and dry, properly panned, and then go to work on the mix.

Mono aux's will help to discipline your drum programming no end.....
