logic tempo changes

Hi Peeps,

 

Firstly I have Logic 5.2 (should I upgrade?) Can some please tell me how to change the tempo of a song to say... 150bpm. I can edit the ex24 to change the key, but then I need to change one key at a time. Is there an easier way? Secondly when I record onto CD the instrament levels and the song levels are all different. How do I get all the levels the same? Thanks... JD

5.2 on ... a Mac? Or a PC?

 

If you're working on a Mac, I strongly suggest upgrading! OS X and Logic Pro 7 is a great set, only it will require a powerful mac to run smoothly.

 

To change tempo, simply open the transport window and change the tempo in there (look for 120.0000 at the top, middle of the window - double click and enter the new tempo).

 

I'm not sure what you mean for your levels... you should be able to match your levels using the Track Mixer or the Audio layer of your environment window?

Hi David, Thanks for the reply. However if the sample is a wav file, changing the tempo does not change the speed of the sample. If I import an audio file into the arrange wimdow, then the file is at the original speed.

In terms of the levels, I leave all the levels at zero in the mixer window , but some instriments record higher than others.

Also, I want to have a complete drum kit as a sampler instriment, but the only way I know how, is to copy each individual hit from sampler CD's into a single file. Is there another way.

Finally, I was intrigued with the comments from Logic nut, sounds like a plant to discretely advertise the other sites. Stay strong.

You could also use the Time and Pitch machine (Sample Editor > Factory > Time and Pitch Machine) to alter the tempo of each loop. This will allow you to retain the original pitch of the loop, but is more work if you have a lot of loops to convert. I second David's comments re: upgrading. Logic Pro 7 offers more flexibility and better ergonomics when working with loops, particularily in regards to gradual tempo changes.

I actually discovered the time and pitch menu yesterday. Although its not doing what I want exactly I am sure that playing around with it will help. However to get a perfect 4 or 8 bar loop is a struggle. Is this something that is done by ear or will Logic or any other tool match the downbeat for you.

You have two more options to adjust an Audio File's tempo/pitch/length in the Arrange Window's local menu: under Audio>Adjust Region Length To Locator/Nearest Bar.

There is also a key command I use all the time, it's "Adjust Tempo using Region Length and Locators" or something like that. You just drag your mouse in the bar ruler the length you wish you region was and then hit the key command. Like, if your region is a little below 4 bars and it should be exactly 4 bars then drag a 4 bar long cycle in the bar ruler and hit the key command.

Hey LoFi, that key command is actually to adjust the tempo of the song to an Audio Region's length.

 

What jdkush is trying to do here is to adjust the tempo of the Audio Region to match the song's.
