Kontakt 4 crashes Logic 9.1.3 in 64-bt mode

As usual, I'm under a tight deadline, and the project I'm working on began to crash as soon as I loaded LA Scoring Strings in Kontakt 4.2.3. I was working in 64 bit mode with instances of PLAY, Kontakt 4, Trillian, and Guitar Rig 4.

I have several version of the project saved. When I open the latest version with LASS loaded the project will not open and logic crashes. When I open the pre-LASS-loaded version, if a menu is brought up (save as, preferences, etc...) it'll crash logic.

I read that sometimes certain 3rd party plugins will cause problems with the Logic GUI. Is that whats going on? I appreciate any advice!

So... I've done a bit more sleuthing, and I removed some AU components from the library folder to see how logic reacts. It turns out that loading Guitar 4 IN COMBINATION with Kontakt 4 makes the session crash. Anybody every run into this problem?

BTW, I'm using a bunch of instances of Guitar Rig as an effects plugin on my software instrument tracks, not just standard audio tracks.

Hi,

I'm no expert on this, but the song I'm working on at the moment uses Kontakt4 (4.2.3 download a few days ago) and I'm using GuitarRig4 effects rack with Kontakt4 instruments on several tracks.

I don't have PLAY or LASS and I'm also running in 64-bit mode with 8GB RAM.

I only use software instruments (ie only MIDI tracks).

I was working all last night and it never crashed once.

I don't have PLAY or the LASS. But I do have Komplete 7 running in 9.1.3 in 64bit flawlessly. Many projects with multiple instances of Guitar Rig, Absynth, Kontakt, Massive, FM8, etc... No crashing issues.

The nice thing is Reactor will now be 64bit - no more bridge there. Now if WAVES and UAD get on board that will be grand.

I had lots of trouble with GuitarRig in 9.1.3.

I assigned a couple of custom presets in my INSTRUMENTS and when ever I loaded them (all with GuitarRig effects) they sometimes worked or they CRASHED LOGIC.

50/50 chance of it happening.

I just updated to 9.1.4 and EVERYTHING WORKS GREAT. NOT ONE CRASH with GuitarRig4.

It could be that GuitarRig4 was the problem bit in your configuration.

Try updating to 9.1.4 and hopefully this will fix your issue.

Cheers from OZ

Alex

Just as an FYI...

Doing a quick google of GetSyncGCDQueue brings up a whole slew of posts regarding issues with drives and file access... Looks like, from the various comments in these posts, that it could be related to hardware/network issues when trying to access a Hard Drive...and some kind of intermittent hardware failure issue again relating to either an internal or external hard drive.

Might be worth your time to read a few of these posts to see if anything rings a bell for you and your own issue..

Good luck...

Thanks for all your replies, I appreciate it!

Unfortunately for me, the new 9.1.4 logic update did not fix things. I'm getting closer to the problem, and now it seems like logic crashes when you put a Guitar Rig FX plugin on top of a Kontakt 4 instrument track. Either that, or the other possibility is that lots of guitar rig plugs loaded makes things crash. It's hard to tell at this point. I'm fairly sure that the issue is rooted in Guitar Rig though.

Hopefully, I can get Native Instruments on the phone next week and get to the bottom of this. I'll post any discoveries. Thanks again!

Now that I've done a bit more testing, it looks like the culprit is having too many Guitar Rig 4 fx plugins loaded. The breaking point seems to be around 8 or so plugins. Any more than that, and logic hits the mat.

Anybody experience working with a lot of guitar rig 4's loaded with no problems??

I just did a test using 8 and later 10 GR4 Plugins and it ran stable for several attempts. Not sure why my system would be more stable than yours in regards to GR4.. but maybe, given the type of crash.. my I/O is more stable/faster? Are you running GR4 in 64 Bit mode?

Anyhow, logical solution as a temp fix until you sort things out... is probably to BIP (Bounce In Place) the tracks once you have things mixed/balanced to help limit the number of GR4 plugins being used at the same time..

I've seen quite a few people saying they are having problems with Kontakt/Guitar Rig lately. I'm not sure what's causing these problems as I can't replicate it on my system, but the problems range from crashing when opening Guitar Rig fx to freezing when trying to close the project.

I think the problem might be with the NI stuff, it might be a good idea to contact their customer support so they can start to build a log of these issues & hopefully release patches to fix them.

Now I'm fairly sure there's a problem with Kontakt, a repeatable crash which happens in stand alone or within Logic is to load Band>Electric Pianos>Wurly Speaker

Once it's loaded as soon as you press a key it will crash, this is reported to happen in Cubase as well as Logic & it has been reported to NI.
